Harley doesnt' care for stepping in mud or puddles. I have to pay attention or he ducks off and takes me into the trees.

I can't figure out what is going on with the deep spot at our creek. the water is really really nasty looking. Before it's always stayed fairly clear in that spot. This year it's got this nasty looking stuff growing or flowing into it there. It just floats around and seems to come apart very easy when the horses go thru it, but it looks bad. I've never seen it do that before.

Good morning everyone,

I went out and took some pictures this morning.

Great nephew riding.

Great niece riding, (niece on the ground)

Josey - you can see how much more grey in just two weeks.

Speed and her momma, Dusty

Jersey, the arab mare in for breeding-

Isn't she beautiful?

Lacey-

Tuffy, Speed and Dusty

Yeah, I couldn't think of the word:). Duh, must be the heat.

It really looks bad. I didn't know if the horse should drink it or not.

Very very nice pictures:)

Now, what color is Josey going to be when she's done? Gray? Will she still have a banket? I like all the babies with the blankets:)

Are the kids new riders?

I like that fence the Arab is behind. Is that a panel? If so they look alot sturdier then the panels we see around here.

You sure have a pretty place and nice paddocks. It looks hot in the arena riding because it's so sunny, but you must have been out there early this morning to be done already.

Those babies are growing up pretty! Josey is gonna go through an awful ugly duckling stage as she greys, but she's nicely built and will be pretty when she's done!

That Arab mare ~is~ pretty! Is she in heat yet?

Oh - and is that a foal feeder place in Speed's corral? The bar is almost up to where mom will be able to squeeze under! When do you wean them? And what's your process for that?

I wouldn't know either if it would be harmful. Probably not, but the same heat probably makes all kinds of organisms thrive in the water.

Do horses get Giardia? I don't know... I know my dog did when he drank pond water.

I don't know yet if Josey will be white like mom with some spots or will be a steel grey with blanket and spots.

The kids are brand new riders but doing great :)

The panels are specially built - 24 foot long and really nice, I think they could hold about anything but easy to put up. There is a man here locally that builds them.

Yes, the arab was bred Thursday - she'll be bred again today.

Both Speed and Tuffy have creep feeders in their paddocks. :) I imagine Dusty could get in if she really tried but we'd probably have to take it apart to get her out.

Tuffy will be weaned the first of August, we'll pull him out of the paddock and put him up at the barn since he will need to be gotten ready for a show on August 20th. Generally, we would wean Tuffy and Speed together and put them both in a different paddock, but Tuffy is getting weaned a little early and being shown.

We wean between 5-6 months, depending on the baby. Tuffy is eating well and driving mom crazy. Speed is eating well also but seems more dependent on mom right now. Tuffy is 4 1/2 months, will be 5 when we wean him. Speed is 3 1/2 months old - still way too soon to wean.

Heh.... Bay's willing, but he's done with that ;~D We'll see about Bruce and Cyn... he's pretty sore today and I don't think he can imagine 25 or 50 ;~D

And as for us... It's funny, I've done 25 mile rides in past years, and this felt longer. Not sure why, other than that on the longer rides, we usually take at least one long break with a lunch and rest. We didn't do that this trip. 5-10 minute breaks and that was it.

My feet were going to sleep, I'd take my feet out of the stirrups and try to stretch them but still... I lowered my stirrups two notches about halfway through. I may lower them some more. I think my circulation isn't good lately.

Horses were tired at the end, but Bay was stronger and less stumbly than he can be when he's over-tired. They're doing a lot of napping today, but they aren't backsore when I checked them this morning. Been waiting for it to warm up here so we can go hose them down. We couldn't hose sweat and mud off last night when we got home because it was dark and getting cold. I like to do that, the salt and mud left on them really dries them out.

I hear... 2J had two chickens die today, she thinks from the heat.

64 and cloudy here. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind, but I'd like it to feel warmer to give the horses baths. They wouldn't appreciate the cold hose right now, I don't think.

Our tack got real muddy too, cinches are caked. Need to clean that up too.

The most miles I ever did at one time was 24 in 6 1/2 hours. I rode Memorial day for a little more then 7 hours which is the most time but not as many miles., but we had 2 good breaks and it didn't seem as bad as the 24 miles. I enjoy riding up to around the 5 hour mark, then I'm ready to get back:)

Oh, I'm so sorry about the chickens....I've never had that happen. Are you sure it's the heat?

My pretty new cinch that I used today....well it's not so pretty and white anymore, it was soaked thru from sweat. We didn't get in any water deep enough for the cinch to get wet.

Oh, yeah the last few miles seem to take for ever. I remember before I knew how to time rides, we'd be out and someone would say we've only got about 3-4 miles to go.....You think piece of cake, But hey, that's another hour at least.

Can't think of anything else it could be...nothing else has really changed. I've wracked my brain.

Still, I took away this feed (it was the last of the bag anyways) and sanitized the waterers with Clorox solution. Matthew and I are going to get some fresh feed as soon as they get out of the pool.
