Back in the late 80's, they used to allow people to ride anywhere in the forest, now they don't. You can ride designated horse trails or automobile roads only. I don't know why they changed.

Well, that's true here too, and I don't argue with that part. People making their own trail leads to bad mud, destruction of undergrowth and erosion here. Our trails wouldn't be pretty if people took shortcuts and wandered off trail. We aren't supposed to ever leave the trails, and the horse side of the forest is seperated from the motorized side and that's to our benefit, too, to not have to deal with motorcycles.

As for trail maintenance here, obviously ours is really good. We are lucky to have the prison right in the forest, and someone with the good idea of having them work the forest. Our Backcourntry Horsemen chapters too, do a lot of volunteer trail and trailhead maintenance. Last night, for example, they were there picking up manure and garbage at the trailhead and the campsites. "Adopt a trail" programs are encouraged, maybe there's a BCH group there also that should be inspired to go in and clear trail?

Good Morning, Yes, this is the first time the mare has been shod. She is the one, that was trained this spring. Where we are going, might be rocky, and I don't want to take a chance of her getting sore. One time I rode a borrowed horse barefoot, on a trail ride. Never again. I walked more than I rode.

Hair, I will have to wait until I get home, to enjoy your movies, hence no comment yet. :') I will make sure I take lots of pictures when we go. I can't remember if I posted a link before.

Cool place! So you can pull up there, with your horses, and your posh camper, and camp there? Do they have corrals and such for the horses too?

Are you going to try your hand at working cattle, or are you just going for the trails?

We sure look forward to seeing the pictures!

Sorry about your tree. The shingles, fence, siding , none of that bothered me two years ago when we had a storm come in. I almost cried when I saw my trees though.

I'd agree... You can't replace a tree that is old enough to provide shade.

I replaced the pecan with an oak. We pulled the broken one out by the roots. I still have about a 2 foot pecan that is growing back. It almost looks like it's growing from the oak. I know I need to pull it but I hate to. I'm such a tree hugger:')

Is anyone else having problems purchasing Gas? Prices around here have rocketed to over $4 a gallon, but it is hard to get. Lots of places are out.

I haven't tried, but I don't think we're having that kind of trouble this far away...

Deaconjim has just called. It's $4.50 a gallon. I never expected problems this far away or this fast.

Well, a lot of it is over-reactionaryism, I'm sure.

I'm sure it is that and greedy gas station owners. All stations from her to 60 miles out are completly out of gas now. Unless we get some soon, It's going to cause probelsm with getting to work.
We do have an electric golf cart! I can just see deaconjim going the 30 miles to work in that! LOL : )

I haven't heard a definitive toll, just the estimation that it might be thousands. It's not countable yet, until they look through ever pile of rubble and every flooded house. It's bad, though.

$2.79 Regular
$2.89 for the middle grade we usually buy
$2.97 Premium

Those are the prices right now at the little store next door. As a small somewhat isolated station, he's not the best prices in town, but he's not usually too far off.

You're pretty close to the crisis down there. We're a long ways away. I don't think there's any panic buying or price gouging happening here yet.

Well it hit $4.50 a gallon here for reg until it ran out.
But thankfully that is the only problem we have.
I hate to think of all those people trapped or hurt or worse. I just can't watch tv anymore.

HOLY SH!T !!! This morning it was $2.59, $2.69, $2.79 and that was after going up $.10 a gallon over night. We just heard that it was going up another $.20 tonight and I thought THAT was bad. I don't know what we're going to do. I drive 25 miles to work in one direction and my husband drives 35 miles to work in the other. Hopefully your lack of gas is just a local panic and the supply will come back up.
