The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Your boss is a nut. If she had any responsiblity at all she wouldn't have left on vacation until you got your paycheck.

Oh dear.... She should have at least made her own arrangements to have her bosses take care of it.

I agree. I'm going to talk to her boss today if I can catch him. He's never in his office.

So, how are your horses? Were they obviously tired after their ride?

I'm fixing to head out and ride Harley, for a short time in the arena while I wait on the farrier. He is supposes to be here at 11:00. I haven't checked the rub spot on Harley all weekend, but I'm hoping it's better, enough anyway for just a short ride. I'd like to take him Wed, if I go to Arrowhead. I'm going to ride him awhile in Jenny's saddle. I rode Rocky Sat. in my saddle, and really checked the spot. His hair wasn't even ruffled. I really think the new pad is going to fix the problem.

The horses seemed good the next day.... I checked both backs for soreness and they didn't wince or seem sore, they did nap much of the next day, but they napped standing for the most part. I think they came through it good. We were so stiff I'd think the horses, who did the real work, would be too, but they didn't show it if they were.

I think we're riding tomorrow.

Hope Harley's good, and I also hope your farrier shows up... on time and healthy! :~D

Everyone is giving you advise that I would repeat, so enough to say, I'm sorry about your paycheck. That's just not right.

Mack and I started a trash service in rural areas around here years ago. It was our start on being self employed. We charged $8.00 a month for once a week curb service. I use to have to grit my teeth with the people who "didn't want to write and $8.00 check once a month" so they waited for 6 months to pay. Would have been fine if they paid in advance, but most paid in arrears. I just couldn't get thru to them that, if 10 people did that, that put us $80 a month short, and $80 to us at that time was alot of money. We were building a business and the first couple of years, we lived on below poverty wages. I would just have prefered everyone to pay once a month. That kept our cash flow even....but try to explain that to some people, or to your creditors:)

It's great... I'm so happy to now be ready to really ride a lot of trail. Being able to go makes all the difference for us.

I would trailer alot more often if I had someone to go with me. I don't mind riding by myself around here, or going to an arena, but trailering by myself to trails,,,, well that doesn't seem to smart.

Well, you've got a great situation, being able to just ride off the property. Trailering to go somewhere regularly by yourself would just add more hassle... and risk, to it when you don't need to.

Yeah, it does add to the risk. But I really think trailering one often makes for a nicer calmer horse. I think they learn to expect the unexpected more and so the unexpected doesn't rattle them so much.

They move along so slow here at home, I wonder sometime if a horse could get just as bored with doing the same trails so much as they do in an arena.

Nope, where she is in VT, she has no e-mail. I'll figure things out, I have a knack for getting myself out of situations like this. I'm mostly irritated that she's on vacation for another two weeks after she just came back. :-p I just hope that I catch her boss before payroll is due on Thursday.

Then or now, $80.00 is quite a sum of money when things need to be paid!

Oh, and I'm not complaining about my situation at all:) I thank God all the time for letting me live where I do. We talk every once in awhile about moving...but having my trails is one of the biggest deterrents about doing it.

There is a building in downtown Bixby that is forsale. It's got a rental shop on the first floor. The guy that owns it now converted the top floor into very nice living quarters. We talked about it:). I'd like to try, to see how living down there would be. It's not a busy town at all, at night there is no one down there. It might be fun and interesting to be able to look down and the town and watch life go by on the streets. Board a horse somewhere and not have to worry about the winter care of one....But then I think what I'm giving up and I'm not sure what I would gain would be worth it. I'm too much an outdoor type person, but I'm not getting younger either:)....

Oh - I wouldn't give up what you've got for town... That doesn't appeal to me at all...

We're not bored yet by the trails we've already been over, but we are eyeing new spots. :~D Have you ridden again on that neighbor's big property? Didn't he give you access to new ground to cover?

I really want to take them to the ocean fairly soon. I'd like to see how they handle the big water and surf. It'd be a really different kind of ride.
