The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Have a great time. Glad to hear it's in an air conditioned arena. Anxious to see pictures.

I hope you find a good place, Beaker. Kennels usually aren't too much.

He looks a lot like my border collie. I would take him cler down here in Texas if I could.

Well, my accident-prone Thoroughbred did it again. After two weeks in the corral (the sick ward) to get over a swollen lymph gland, I turned her out to pasture and went down the next day and she had a great gaping wound on her inner thigh at the hock joint. She rushed down to the pasture and managed to locate some loose wire somewhere and did herself a good one.

Now she's back in the sick ward again for ANOTHER two weeks.

I've walked the pasture as much as I can in this heat to locate any loose barbed wire but can't find any.

Good golly miss molly.

I'm hoping that I can find someplace. I've put together a list of kennels in the area close to me so that I can visit him during his "vacation", if he chooses to think of it this way, which he won't.
That's terrible to hear about your TB. I hope that she heals ok. The TB's in my experience have been as accident prone as can be. Did you see it happen? I wouldn't count on finding that wire, but I bet that she knows right where it is! Just like a nail, or a rock, or anything that could conceivably caused bodily injury...

Hair, upper 70's is hot????

That's why I live where I do! I stop functioning when it hits 80. Any more than 90 and all I can do is sit in the shade and spray myself with the hose. ;~D

Hello,

Just got in. Jenny and I went to pick up Blake. They're all crashed out,,Gee Willakers its hot.

That's pretty much the impression I was getting, watching this girl work with this horse. It was just a matter of, He could act that way so he did. She's pretty much had this problem with every horse she has had.

Becky

Finished my ride. It has been 70 -90 % humidity and over 95 degrees for the past 3 wks. Today it was only 90 and lower humidity so I rode this morning. Met some new riders at he barn and took them over the trails. I have not ridden for 3 wks due to the temp and lack of free time.
My horse did fine and we did some jumping . Did some x country fences and one of the riders has a horse that is an ex field hunter so she went over all the jumps very confidently.

I led on the jumps and my mare did great . Jumping more willing then usual. My mare Rhiannon is a 26 year old TB so I am careful what I ask for, but this last year she has been getting back into enjoying jumping.

Rode for 3 hours and did about 15 miles . Afterwards the riders were exchanging phone #'s since the rest enjoyed it.
I have basically riding the trails by myself for the last year since the barn was full of slow and timid riders.
I have not posted much before but I ride in Anne Arundel Co in MD on the east coast.

I also met a woman on the trails that I have not seen in 12 years, We exchanged news etc.

I had a filly that stuck a hole in her hind leg (inside) and the only conclusion I could come to was that she did it with a sharp stick from a broken tumbleweed that hit just right. No wire or metal in the pasture at all. I think some horses can injure themselves in a padded stall. Hope she heals up okay.

My son just called me - wanted to know if we wanted to take on an arab gelding, 5yr, that was headed for the auction. Guess he's rank and charged the woman who owns him while in the round pen.

My whole family needs their head examined.

It sounds like you had a great time. It's so much more fun to ride with a group or another rider even, if your riding styles are similar.

I used to hate riding with my husband - I like a quiet walk down the rode, he likes putting miles behind him. He and my DIL have a ball riding together, they are both the same. My son is like me when he rides, quiet and peaceful, enjoying the countryside.

I like bit of everything. A nice quiet walk for a little, a nice canter, maybe a few obstacles, (depending on the horse) and I also enjoy semi-steep terrain now and again for the challenge of staying on. :-p

Can you see that the cowboy is on his head and his feet are up in the air? It's a great statue.
