This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Speaking of crows, we've had a couple dead recently and West Nile confirmed in them. No cases in horses yet that I'm aware of.
Oh, I definately will keep my fingers crossed for you. Is it possible that someone who works at your vet clinic will keep him for you for a month?
We can't go around most of the time.... and it's hard to slow the horses down. They get in that suck mud and want to rush to get out of it. We're gonna leave out of the other trail head to avoid those bad spots we know of for awhile.
For your definition of cool, maybe. :~D It was in the upper seventies and I'd call it hot. Hot enough for short sleeves. Bob rides in long sleeves all the time, no matter how hot it is, because of bees. He's very allergic. - or was, he went through treatments to become less sensitive, but the last time he was stung he was close enough to death it stuck with him. He carries a kit... a shot I'm supposed to give him if he can't do it.
I forgot the camera again
~shakes head slowly side to side~
I've been looking into vet clinics too. As luck would have it, I know someone who jut got a job in a vet clinic, so I'm looking into that too.
Too bad there isn't a cheaper option... I hope something good for everyone is found.
:) I don't think I've known a vet tech yet who wouldn't make room for one more animal, especially on a temporary basis. Or know someone who would.
I think that's my best bet. He's a lovely dog, and anyone would fall in love with him. He's a lab/boarder collie cross, about 13 years old. The only not-pretty part of him is that he has a lab build with stick boarder collie legs in the back. But he has a big plumey boarder collie tail. His front legs and paws are all lab. I remember one time when he ended up in the doggie slammer, the lady working there asked us if she could take him off of our hands! He was so traumitized by the event that he muttered and barked all the way home, probably yelling at us for leaving him there, and telling us all about his adventure. He had gotten out one night and decided to go for a jaunt.
My first thoughts too. A bad ride will do it. That, and maybe something in the trailer. It doesn't take bees long to make a nest, and they love horse trailers. It's not normal for a horse who would load willingly one time, and not want to the next. They might balk some at one point, but it sounds like she really had a rough time with him.
A friend of mine hauled a horse for me once. He drove so bad,(I was following) that this horse refused to load easily after that. I had notice there were no mats in the trailer, and I was too young and stupid to speak up. I could hear this horse, banging around going down the road. I learned my lesson then. It took a long time, and he never really got over it. Always check out the trailer before you haul.
Good advice... and when driving, remember that there are horses trying to stand up back there... without hands to hang on with. If you're too abrupt, their brakes are their faces. I didn't fully comprehend the ride in the horse trailer till I rode in one. Too fast cornering, hard braking, jerky driving all make it hard to enjoy the ride back there. :~D
Frog...the handler does have a rod in his left hand. The picture is a little blurry, and it might be hard to see. She did look a little agitated to me and I said so. The handle just gave me this funny look...lol You should have seem me trying to get on that thing...now that was funny.
How are you people feeling today?
We're fine... a little creaky yesterday but we're headed up to help my dad with chores today.
In fact, we're late. See you all later!
A lady I know turned a corner into the fairgrounds too fast. Her horse went down in the trailer and got caught under the partition. He tried to get up, and broke his back. The vet was called, but nothing he could do for this poor horse, but end his misery.
Hair, upper 70's is hot???? That's a cold front here and we'd all be wearing sweaters. It's going to be over 100 today, heat index at 106 to 110. I heard on the news that the lows in Las Vegas weren't going to go below 100. Duchess, is it that hot where you are?
Ok, I feel better:). I thought he needed his butt busted too.
Becky
No, it's not her driving. She's very careful, and even more so when pulling a trailer.

It sure cools off nice there at night. 60's sound heavenly. My parents are in Ruidoso right now, they said that they use the heater in their trailer at night. Highs during the day are upper 70's. They don't want to come home.
