The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I've always wanted a Parrot or Macaw too... they're very cool. Tiff had one that flew through the house making screaming Pterodactyl sounds! It was an impressing sight and sound to behold!

Very cute pony! And good pics of the kids runnin' their events. We missed our fair completely this year.

Hey - what happened the other day with the farrier? Did you have a substantial conversation with either the vet or the farrier about feet and/or chiropractic?

The farrier comes tomorrow.

My brother had a pet store one time. he had a Macaw in it for sale, It was like a $950 bird, and that was 20 years ago. The dam thing flew out the door one day when a customer came in. My brother chased that thing all over Broken Arrow for a week. It would call to him but it would never come down the trees far enough where he could be reached. Finally some kid volunteered to go way way up a tree and bring him down. Once he got it down he had to go to the hospital and have his hand stitched up where it had biten him as he was coming down.

I had a neighbor who had a Macaw that she had raised from a baby. She sold it when she was pregnent, didn't want it screeching while a baby was sleeping. She said if she had known how much I wanted one she would have just given it to me:( where she could have seen it occasionally.

Mack says no more animals tho:)

They are really expensive... and I know it wouldn't go well with the dogs.

But Tiff's bird was really cool. It was such a huge bird when it was flying around the house. It lived on a perch that was surrounded by all her plants in the corner. It didn't really talk, but it ~laughed~. She'd have ~parties~ (wink wink nod nod) at her house, and if anyone started laughing, the bird would laugh, this big jolly HA HA HA HA HA! and it was just so funny... we'd all laugh and no one could stop. ;~D

Does she still have it?

The one my neighbor had would say Hello everytime the phone rang:). He sounded just like the owner too:)

Parrots are very pretty, but I would much rather see them in their native habitat then stuck in small cage. I really don't like to see small birds in those tiny cages where they cannot fly, and won't go anywhere near them in petsmart.

I don't like to see them caged either. When I had a bird - a parakeet, it was loose all the time, and I had a perch in a big tree in the living room where it spent most of it's time. So was Tiff's Maccaw loose to fly and move around, and they are actually quite social. It might not have been as good as freedom, but they can be given an enjoyable life.

That sounds ok, and probably a lot safer for the bird than being in the wild, but I can't abide it when owners leave their birds sitting in a tiny cage without ever having freedom. It's just a pet peeve with me! LOL
Completly different subject but when I saw it, I wished I had my camera out!
Coming through Atlanta which is SO busy, I saw a woman on the back of a Harley READING a book! (not a map). Made me look twice I can tell you! LOL I thought afterwards, that maybe it was her Bible! : )

Cute pony.

I was reading in the Barrel Horse News, that Martha Josey opened up her place to hurricane victims. A lot of people just didn't have anywhere to go with their stock.

Well then, how do you stand to keep your horses in a fenced in area. That is not their native habitat.

How do you stand to keep your dogs in their kennels. That is not their native habitat.

Yeah, I know but look at it again. There is a potential for 4 storms to merge and affect every one of us with maybe the exception being Hair. It's book/movie stuff:')

LOL. I know what you mean. It's a pet peeve of mine to see so many horse owners who never ride.
