This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL! I do things like that ALL the time! : )
Be careful!
Heat exhaustion can creep up on you. I was cutting cedar and even in the shade started to feel wierd and went to the stock tank and poured a half-bucket of water over myself and sat in a camp chair for a minute. A little breeze and I was okay.
My doc says when you sweat a lot, you lose potassium as much as salt, so eat bananas.
The big beautiful star in the west right after sunset is Venus.
I'll go look.
"Did you ever get any rain?"
Not a drop. Have another chance of rain later on in the week.
Are you feeling ok? I glanced through all the posts I missed and looks like you aren't feeling very good. How'd it go at the doctor?
Those gaited horses are gorgeous and I loved the video! Man, those horses were movin' out!
Take care
Will do. : ) I'm over on the TAR thread! I hardly ever watch a reality show, but Emma and I spend some quality time, just the two of us, watching it and chatting about the characters. It's been fun so far! : )
Sounds pretty cool. I'll bet that was fun. I always enjoyed dressing up to ride in the Christmas parade. I never did anything elaborate but I always liked to string battery powered Christmas lights around Tennessee's neck. He looked pretty cool coz it was a night time parade.
Well I'm glad to hear that you made it through all the tests without throttling the doctor. It's hard enough not to do without being starving to death on top of it all. I hope they find out what the matter is and you can get back to feeling like a human being again.
Y'all, I've just had the most horrible evening. When I got to the barn to feed, I discovered that Bob had about half cut his right front leg off. I have no idea on what or even when it happened but it was sometime after I fed last night. The vet said it was more than 8 hours ago coz he couldn't stitch it. The cut is right on the knee cap and had a flap hanging that was about the size of the palm of my hand. It just made me sick. All the vet could do was cut it off, debride it and bandage it. There was a big hunk of meat that he had to cut off and a small piece of tendon but he seems to be able to walk ok, although it's swollen and you can tell it's sore. I hope it doesn't make him permanently lame. He said he'd probably take most of the winter to heal and would be somewhat lame for a while but should get over it in time. I was so thankful that it wasn't any worse than it was, and it could've been, but all I could think was Darn! Bob's the best moving horse I've ever had and I was so looking forward to riding him this fall but it looks like his riding days are over for a while. Y'all just keep him in your prayers that he'll be sound again. Thanks!
I'd like to but I have to work this Saturday to make up for time I took off for school. What is a doopy ride?
So sorry to hear about Bob! Prayers for speedy recovery! What on earth caused the cut?
Poor Bob. Hopefully he will heal fast. It always amazes me how fast they can recover.
Hi Rose, Yes I know where Parkersburg is. Not too sure about the other town you mention. That is a very beautiful area, close to the Ohio River. I want to go camping this weekend at a place across the river near Wheeling, WVA. So, I can go to the casino. :) Give me some more info, and if it's close, I will check out for you.
I hope and pray he has a quick recovery and is sound when he does.
Oh dear. I feel just awful for you and for Bob.... and what a tough injury to heal.
Is it immobilized or can he move and have it still heal?
It's not selfish at all.
Are you having to give him anything for pain?
