This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
He probably felt like something had a hold of him. Funny! I'm glad you weren't hurt though. Squirrely things like that can be scarey sometimes.
I had a close one with Bob on Sunday. We were boogying on down the trail at a pretty fast rack when suddenly, for no apparent reason, he bucked both back feet up over his head. Nobody was close behind him. There were no flys. I have no idea why he did it. I was lucky I didn't fall off. I managed to get a good hand full of mane, but I lost a stirrup and it took me a few seconds to get him stopped. And I broke a nail, darnit! ;o)
Yep, you do.
Glad you didn't take a fall. I wonder sometimes why I continue to climb on the silly things:) It's only a matter of time
Becky
LOl...well that's what I thought, and I think that was something I just needed to let him deal with. This time of year they can be everywhere. Grizzly was covered with them too:)
Becky
There must have been something happening Sunday. A daughter of a friend of ours, got bucked off a normally easy mare, then when her Dad got on the mare to take her back to the barn, she bolted, did a quick turn and he fell off getting his foot caught in the stirrup...ouch! Luckily he lost his boot before he had too many injuries. Suffered a sore back and backside, bump to the head and broken nose. : (
Wow! That's scarey! He could've been dragged if the boot hadn't come off. Thank goodness it did. He got hurt bad enough as it was.
Speaking of doctors, I've got an eye doctor appt right now myself. Gotta go. Talk to y'all later...
I am so glad to hear that you are going, keep us posted.
You might try spraying his legs with WD40 - I don't know if it will work on your weeds but it does help keep stuff out of tails on the endurance horses.
Deaconjim will probably take me to Lowes afterwards! LOL Not exactly the treat I would have wished for!
I also have to go get the boys new socks.....exciting stuff! :~D
Heh.... oh dear! Poor Harley.... I had a cocker that ended up in thos things once, or something like them.... and she ended up clipped naked to get rid of them.
Glad you had a good ride on Tennessee!
I think he looks great, and seems to be enjoying the outing. I won't call anyone fat, even someone else's horse... That just has a habit of biting me in the butt. ;~D
Hey - just got home and I'm in the process of recieving and looking at all the videos from the horse shows. Those are really cool!
Let me catch my breath and get caught up around here and I'll try to load a couple of them later so the rest can see.
I thought this guy was the most gorgeous palomino color I've ever seen...
This one was gorgeous too and when they let his tail down it drug the ground at least a foot...
Miscellaneous flag horses...
Oh, for the Texas gals, this was the Texas flag bearing "horse". Think they're tryin' to tell ya something? ;o) Check out the stripes on his/her knees...
Here's the costume class in order of placement...
The mule again! This group was doing "The First Christmas" thing. They had Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus, an angel, 3 shepherds and a sheep and 3 wise men bearing gifts. It was so funny, but cute. They won the class...
Queen Elizabeth I presume?...
A confederate soldier and his family...
I thought this girl should've won. Her armor was really cool and her little horse was gorgeous...
The costumes are really neat:)
Did you notice the feet on the palamino??? They look about 6 inches long. What's the point of that? I'm assuming that is the way they want them and not that he is over due:). What breed is he?
Becky
He's a Racking Horse. Probably registered as a Walking horse too if I had my guess. I think this particular horse was the 2004 Plantation Pleasure World Grand Champion. I may have the class wrong but he was the 2004 WGC something. The long feet create more lift and action in the front end, in combination with really thick shoes. To get even more rise in the front and squat in the back, they put the big 6 inch thick padded up shoes on top of all that hoof and you don't wanna get me started on all that coz I hate it.
I'm headed home now. Gotta go feed then I'll check in again later...
Those are great pictures of pretty horses... that is a pretty palomino.... and if I might add, that is a gorgeous buckskin mule. I have a thing for mules... be they coarse or fine, and he's just very pretty.
You'll survive:')
I know! : )
