This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well I wish it was cooler here. Our AC is out. We have been having the lights go off and on since last night. I hope nothing burned up.
Deaconjim always tells me to turn of the air if we have a bad storm, so I hope it's nothing serious. If we have a breeze, I like to open all windows and turn off the air, saves pennies and airs the home out good! : )
I'm glad you did.
Great pics! : )
I've never heard of that. Blood sugars are not something that you want to mess with, Sharn. Have you seen a doctor?
Yes I have. A while ago now, when my sugars would go sky high or hit rock bottom and I would pass out. He ran the normal tests and I am on a diabetic food plan. I watch what I eat and check my sugars, but just lately they have stayed high. Which is unusual for me. My kidney function was not great either, but I just really dont want to go on insulin and i don't care for doctors. I had enough of medical stuff in the UK to last me a lifetime.
Try eating cinnamon - lots (on things that you eat) Do not eat bananas, pasta, corn, bread, potatoes which turn to sugar almost immediately.
Start a log of what you are eat, start checking your sugars three times a day at least, be sure to have a snack before you go to bed - that helps your sugars stay more even.
Make sure you have some orange juice around if your sugars start to dive - it's much better for you than candy - however, candy is fine in an emergency.
Is it possible you are running a low grade infection or even a kidney infection? That will run your sugar up.
There are oral meds that you can take rather than insulin if your diabetes is not too bad - Bob takes orals twice daily.
Now if it's not immediately evident that something you are eating is causing this, or that you have an infection - please go to the doctor (well, if you have an infection you need to anyway). Diabetes is nothing to play around with and each person is different.
We have found with Bob's that cinnamon on some of his foods will help keep his sugar down. He also stays much more regular with meals and snacks every couple of hours. Also, some foods take his sugars through the roof. He had to end up admitted to the hospital twice before he started watching for infections and treating them immediately.
Good luck
Protect your kidneys. Go see a doctor, even if it's just to do a recheck of how your body is handling things, and talk to him. (or her)
She's a beautiful mare - sure doesn't look her age.
Fabulous pictures Beaker! She looks like a fun mare, and I love to see horses still going so well at 29. Gives me hope for Bay. Looking forward to seeing the rest!
Thanks for your concern. Rose says I'm nagging her, but she hasn't seen anything yet. My first wife was diabetic, and died from complications of kidney failure. You can be very sure that we will be paying a visit to the doctor in the very near future.
I wish I knew more about it, but you sound like you've got good help with Duchess.
It's good for at least one of you to worry for her!
I never worry, because that would be butting into God's business. Instead of worrying, I do something. Rose hates doctors, but she knows she needs to go. I'll be making the appointment Monday morning.
Ah - better way to look at it :~D
