This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I want to look at one closer. I have to wait until I get some relief though. I'm babysitting:'(

OK - but not too close if you need to dodge a hurricane.... they're big!
I'll sure pray for the safety of everyone in the proposed path.
Please take all possible precautions for EEE. I didn't realize people could get it, nor that it was fatal. I worry a bit about West Nile out here but if caught early, generally isn't much worse than a bad flu.
Oh I will, no worries. Honestly, out in my neck of the woods, there have been virtually no mosquitoes because of the lack of rain over the summer, and now it's starting to get cooler at night. I think that the only reason why there was a case around here was because of the fact that birds can fly. :-p Thank goodness it wasn't a human case.
(grin) My light reading consists of browsing CDC. How about you?
Skin so Soft by Avon works really well for mosquitos here. I put it on my arms and on my horses faces and necks.
Hey that looks like a cool product. I think Becky has a tough time worming one of hers.
I have a little bit of trouble with the pony, she does a lot of head bobbing and such, but she's small.
OK - help me out Texas folks, who's in the path of this storm and what are your plans?
Rocky can be a pill to worm sometimes.
I'm going to be hit and miss around here, with the weather so warm I'm trying to get out early and get things done. If I don't turn on the computer, I have a better chance of doing it:). This morning I'm not riding so early because I'm going to Debbie's to check out some saddle pads.
Becky
Have a good trip out there, and don't forget the camera!
I'll be hit and miss too, I have a few appointments in town for work.
I have a CRC and a Merk. Top that. :-p
Cindydawg is gonna get it but not take the full force of a head on collision. I will also get some of it but I'm too far inland for it to still be a hurricane. We should get quite a bit of rain, though, and we sure need it.
What town are you in again?
And what town is she in?
I'm between Dallas and Fort Worth, near Denton. Cindydawg is on the coast in Brownsville. It's right at the very southern tip of Texas, if you look on a map. I do have a friend that's in the town that's going to take a direct hit. I've been trying to get ahold of her but no luck. She's probably already evacuated. She's in Corpus Christi.
I thought she was in Brownsville, but I couldn't remember.
Eeek. Bad part about Brownsville is all she can to is drive closer too it... No where to go south, unless she' wants to ride it out in Mexico.
Eek.
