This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It's breathable, stretchable, acts as a sunscreen and there's a hood that can be worn with it to protect their face. Maybe that's what she needs. They sure are expensive, but that may be what it takes. Either that or she needs to go live with Duchess in Nevada where it's too dry for culicoides. ;o)
I'm not familiar with those. Are they for horses with lameness issues?
Hopefully you'll have better luck with your farriers than I do. It's been my experience that they don't like anything they don't already know about.
I looked it up, sounds very interesting.
If the farrier is trying to help keep a horse sound, then maybe they would consider looking into the shoe. I think a training video was offered. Maybe if a few customers started asking about the shoe they would take a look and consider working with it. That or at least give you their educated opinion as to why they don't think it will work.
I've seen those before. They look like horse pajamas, but maybe it would work too. Where'd you get the pic?
Horses...., I can not get anyone to answer at the stables. I guess after I pick up my meds I'm gonna have to drive over there. I'm so tired of this crap.
Don't you just love bosses like that? Mine told me I need to take time off because of working six days a week lately. However I can not leave on Mondays,Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, the 1st,10th,15th,25th,29th through 30th. I just wanted to say something so spiteful to her.
Spitefull HELL! I'd wanna smack her! ;o)
I seriously thought about that.
www.cashelcompany.com.
I ordered the belly wrap part of that get-up.
They both look like pajamas, but if the horses get eaten alive without them, I suppose they'd be appreciated. My friend has a horse that is so sensitive she should have something like that.
I just can imagine the other horses in the herd would laugh and point at a horse wearin' that in the pasture. ;~D
It's working out though. I found a stable in San Antonio (borne). The vet coming out to do health cert on both and a coggins on Okie. I asked the owner here but I guess for liability issues she couldn't help. She said some take them out, some pasture and some keep them in the barn. The pasture not an option. I asked her how much wind the barn could hold and she told me she didn't know if it could withstand any! Oh well, Sq Barb do you know anything about this place? The lady has room and told me just to let her know. She actually sounded excited about taking in two evacuees:')http://www.bbonline.com/tx/whisperwind/

Wow! Nice place! Looks expensive.
It is expenisive . 325 to pasture. 545 to stable. I pay 180-360 here. She will pror rate daily though and I would only need 2-3 days. Eddie back to just going to a park which is fine but who is going to take them?
So you're basically looking at $18 a day to stable them. $54 for 3 days. BAD, but not TOO bad if you had to do it. But wait, that's per horse, so it's $108. Ouch! Maybe you could find a horse campground somewhere out of harm's way.
That's what Eddie is saying. We have to be prepared but he doesn't believe we will get a direct hit and he's concerned we would be going to the storm instead of away.
