The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We say that word and are open about it. They are told that Lying is a sin and God does not like it. We have given the "for instances" too. It's worked so far! : )

I see things I'm not crazy about sometimes but when you reach the point where your customers have bonded with you, they will accept a lot more. I realize that the owner at my stables is running a small business by herself and doing the best she can. I don't compromise on the horses safety but I ignore some stuff that doesn't and Eddie, myself and a lot of her boarders pitch in to help her with stuff because she is always around and available to help us when we need something. As she says "it's my life". Her way may not always be mine but if it works.........

LOL, might be a good tactic. To tell the truth, I don't know what irritated me the most the boarders who knew what was going on and let it or Debbie for taking advantage of people.....

I just couldn't run a stable, I have no tact. I wouldn't cheat them but some of then were just stupid and wouldn't learn. I can deal with ignorance but not people who "willing" stay stupid or continue to do stupid things when they've been told....I'm too opinionated:)

The vet there?

I took the weathermen last week at their word saying changes were coming with our weather. I bought stuff to make a pot of beef stew...I'm in there making it now thinking, it's way to hot to be eating beef stew....OH well, I love crock pot meals. I'm a morning person and love it in the evenings when my supper is all ready cooked.

But it's already hot, I don't think I'm going to ride today after all, between the heat and the flies....Harley is just standing in his stall when he could be out grazing on the grass in the yard....I know the flies are bad when that happens.

Hey. I started to the garage to wash a load of clothes, stopped of at my color book keyboard and somehow ended back up here:') Poor Josh. He has his first class tonight. He's about to get an eye opening in studying.

Thanks. Right now it looks like it's going to curve north. I'm going to go ahead and find a stable that will take them though because it's only a matter of time, and when one is knocking at the door it's to late to start looking. There are actually some nice horse hotels but I evacuated once before and it was bad getting back and I want to stay close if safe. I want my horses out for even a tropical storm though.

think when I run mine, they'll all have stalls with runs, and access to pasture, and the board will be the same for everyone.... it it's nice and they don't have to come in, great, but I can see how I wouldn't want to have all these variable board bills based on whether they stayed out 10 or 15 nights that month. Those judgment calls about what's best for the horse are part of what they're paying me for. No one will stay out in the rain, but no one will be stalled when they don't need to be either.

Your plan sounds like the ideal way to go, no doubt. The problem is alot of boarders want things other then what you and I think is ideal:). That's why I couldn't run a stable. So much depends on what each boarder is doing with their horses. Show people don't want the nicks and scraps that horses get when turned out together, or they don't want the horses in the sun. To make money you'd have to satisfy the boarders. I guess if you tell then before hand what will be done and they go for it that would be OK. But from what I've seen, everyone has different opinions on how they want their horse stabled. It could get very perplexingand complicated. I wouldn't want to keep horses stalled. I don't mind the nicks and scraps they get playing, I think it's good for them to get to be horses. But alot of people just don't want that to happen to their horses.
