The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's nasty dark and windy here right now. I think a major storm is blowing in.

Today I saw a man on a horse riding down the main highway in my hometown. He had a t-shirt on that said "Coast to Coast" Does anyone know about this guy?

Do not know anything about the guy riding his horse but he should keep an eye on it at night though. Someone will steal it now that the price of gasoline is so high.

I was too late. I paid $3.09 for premium (which is all I can burn in the Jeep) on my way home. I was just watching the news and it's $3.29 in some places. I called Lee who works in Decatur and he found a place that still had regular for $2.59 but it went up 30 cents while he was pumping. But at least we can get it....right now. I'm parking the Jeep after today and going back to my old '85 Buick. It gets 22mpg. Lee can drive his old mustang. It's 20 yrs old too an ugly as homemade sin, but it still gets 25mpg. I ain't too proud to drive an old junker!

Do they have corrals and such for the horses too?

Stalls ($20), pasture ($8) and picket line ($3) We will picket. The Arabian and the one eyed pony are going with us. My daughter's friend is bring 5 of her horses. We are leaving tomorrow afternoon, so that we can be there for the cattle round up. I don't think I will do that, but the others will. It will take us close to 5 hours to get there. My first time pulling this trailer, so my knuckles will be white, by the time I get there. Maybe the high gas prices will keep everyone home this weekend.....naw!

Good job with the pictures and movies. I just love that. The bridge did sound scary! Your horses are real troupers going over it. What beautiful trails too.

At least our horses will be worth more now. : )

I have about three hundred gallons of diesel to use if I need it. It is in one of my old trucks. Now if I just had a diesel car.......

Funny thing about that house - my husband had it built/finished, whatever. We were in the military and he went to Alabama ahead of me, stayed with friends a couple of months and bought the house.

I don't know if someone else had originally picked it or what. It was just about finished when he found it - he ordered the colors/appliances/carpeting, etc. and then after we got in, he installed a sliding glass door since the wall where he put it was already finished when he found the house.

I'll betcha a buncha people will be burning red or green diesel if things get much worse, and I wonder how closely it might be checked.

Last red I bought was about the same price as green. Luckily I have green stored.

I love watching Bay's ears go from focus-forward to straight out each side over the bridges. His ears follow his area of concern, for sure. I always know what he's looking at by where the ears are pointed, his little radar.

Your camping trip sounds great.... Bring lots of photo taking capacity! Extra cards, extra batteries! We want to see the whole trip!

I read somewhere that the regulations were being suspended for the time being to allow people to use whatever they could get.

Yeah, I've heard that saying all my life. It's the first one that comes to mind when something is REALLY ugly. And that car really is too. If he doesn't get it painted soon, it's gonna have a homemade sunroof.

That'll be nice. I heard on the radio going home that the EPA was relaxing emissions regulations to allow more grades of crude to be used to make gas and diesel. Hopefully that'll help too.

ROFL! One of my very first cars only cost me 50 pounds. ($80). Unfortunatly it had been used as a chicken house for the past 5 years and so even after cleaning it out, I could never have the windows all the way shut! Phew! LOL
Luckily I had more on my mind than trying to impress friends!~
