This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Gasp!...No self respecting Southerner would EVER eat Cream of Wheat! It's just not done! ;o)
Really though, I think grits are more like Cous Cous, only finer, or maybe like course ground rice. They don't have much taste all by themselves. I like 'em with just butter and salt, but lots of people like to dress 'em up with garlic and cheeze and stuff like that. I like to make a breakfast casserole with them with scrambled eggs, crumbled sausage and cheddar cheeze. It's really good.
I pinged you to a thread with their names. I couldn't get the pic and report both to transfer. There are also better, more close up pics thru out the thread.
I'm all worried about you, and here you are talking about grits!
(never had cous cous either) :~D
I've never even heard of it:).
Becky
If defense of grits, they can be as runny or as solid as you want, depending on how long you let them cook and how much water you use. It all depends on the cook. Most restaurant grits aren't worth a flip. They use instant and they're not worth having. If you want good grits you have to cook 'em yourself.
Thanks. It wasn't the man from here. But those two could be twins. And this is something Raymond would have done. He loves to ride in parades.

It's fine here this morning so far, just cloudy. They are predicting 50 to 70 mph winds and 6 to 10 inches of rain here by midnight. It could get nasty. The eye is supposed to pass just west of here, right across the north western tip of the state.
You see the horse pics? There was another of a woman riding one thru the crowd. I was out of film darn it. Anyway, they had yellow tape up so everyone came thru a welcoming booth. The horse got nervous coming out. He had to go thru a crowd of people and under yellow tape that people were holding up for him. I don't know if I would have brought him in but I was very impressed with his rider. He tried to back up and did a little jibbing. Another woman walking beside her got hold of his halter but let him go. The girl just kept working him and he finally went thru. She was very calm with him and wasn't noticeably forceful. She just kept him going forward.
Well upclose it doesn't look so much like him.

So are you and your critters prepared to take that kind of wind safely? That's higher than we'd ever see here, so I can't really relate.
It's Greek I think. I only tried it coz it looked like grits. Tasted a bit different though. I'm not quite sure what it's made of. I tried to Google it, but just got recipes for using it.
Hmmm.... well, all I know then, is I'm not supposed to say it's like Cream of Wheat...
I better go feed my ponies. :~D
Good morning all.
I was unable to make it to Crawfrod but checked in on FR all day.
Listening to Fox News radio, out of WOAI San Antonio (our 'Rush-and-Hannity' station) I was shocked at how biased and slanted Fox News radio was! And outraged.
I called Fox News main office and complained about it. hope their phone lines were burning.
Parades can be very tricky. The part I always hated and made me the most nervous was that you were on asphalt or cement, very slippery with a jigging horse.
I rode in a parade one time in a very small town where the main road thru town had alot of residental lots along it, and their yards came right down to the edge of the road, no curbs. Alot of kids were sitting right along the edge, and we were told to stay off peoples yards.
I was on an Arab:). We were going along pretty good when way up ahead there was some one with a rack of cotten candy on wheels pushing it towards us. My horse's head started coming up, up, up the closer it got. I felt him tensing and start moving sidewise. He was all bowed up, looked pretty, but it wasn't a good place for him to start doing that. I was coming up on a group of kids sitting with their mother standing behind them. The kids were saying, "Look at that pretty horse" he was really prancing by then, it happened really fast. He started heading right for them, and I yelled at the mother to "get out of the way". I think they thought I was making him do that. They all got out of the way but we just about landed on that houses front porch:), so much for staying out of yards. Once the cotten candy passed he got right back in line.
That was my last parade:)

We'll just have to do the best we can I guess. Out in the pasture is probably the safest place for the horses. Less likely that something'll fall on them. They'll just turn tail into the wind and be fine. I'll put their halters on them with my name and phone number attached so that if (God forbid) they get out, at least who ever finds them will know who's they are. It may be a long night.
Bay doesn't like flapping flags... Oh - he'd be ~REAL~ pretty in a parade, I bet :~D
Oh dear.
Do please check in with us after the storm passes, let us know you all made it through OK.
That's a good idea, putting you name and number on the halter. i would never have thought of it.
Becky
LOL...there is nothing prettier then a prancing horse.
