The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

My best guess is that they looked at the awesomely trained dressage horses, bought a 17h upper level horse thinking that anyone could get on and make him do the same stuff he'd been doing with a professional rider,

Yeah that's my best guess too.

Just because he was expensive doesn't make him immediately ridable IMO."

We can take that crazy leg wrap lady at my barn with the $40,000 dollar warmblood that she only grooms as another good example. She and Madonna should do lunch sometime. (The horse is still at the trainers by the way. Haven't seen hide or hair of the woman)

It may be that they bought to much horse... I dunno.... but even if the horse was the perfect choice, accidents can still happen, especially when we push and rush. Heck, maybe it was a nice horse, but there was an unexpected great dane ;~D

Don't you know who I am????"

Ah, Tuffy, aren't we all guilty of this at times though. lol

"You &^%^& piece of*%^&.

I can tie you up til you are 30.

I can make you run until your tongue hangs out

Try that again and I'll put you out of my misery.

Don't mess with me":')

Seriously, ignoring who she is, I hope she spends the time while she's down, bonding with her horse and get's back on soon if she's serious about having one.

Or maybe she thought that the horse was a great dane?

I hope you're out riding and enjoying the new saddle, and taking pictures... and getting a new keyboard or whatever faulty part was making you communicate in hieroglyphics!

I'm excited to see you in the new saddle today, I hope it stopped raining.

We're going riding here in a bit... going to ride up to Mima Falls we think, it's nice and shady.

This is the one that I rode once. Every time I went to stop I almost went over the handlebars or ran into something trying to figure out the gears.

My new bike. I'm getting a lot of teasing but I love it.

Your new bike is real bike.

Everything looks green and pretty there. Are you getting lots of rain?

"I can tie you up til you are 30."

I never thought of that one. It's a good 'un.

I'd get banned for saying what I really feel.

Lately we have been getting a lot of the 5 minute showers.

What has happened to the pump bars though? I'm looking for one I can add. I went to town with Eddie awhile ago. We probably saw at least ten people out on bikes of different kinds.

What's a pump bar?

Yesterday, we went to my mother's for a small family get together. My mother informed us that in the last 6 weeks her legs have been giving out on her. She will be walking around and boom, no legs, and she falls. ALS and multiple sclerosis has been ruled out, so far. She's having an MRI on Tuesday. They are starting to think tumor on spine or brain.

It's a kind of luggage rack bar that went over the back fender. We used to ride on them and called then pump bars.

Praying it's nothing serious with your Mom, even though any fall at her age is serious.

I remember those bars!

Yeah, she's 71 and still going strong. She's one of those people that won't ever go to the doctor so it's scary when she breaks down and does it.

Prayers for your mom, tuffy. My grandpa had ALS, and very similar symptoms. I'd say it's good that it's been ruled out, but there are other worries besides just that, and I hope for the best possible diagnosis for her. It's very frightening I'm sure, for her to not know when she might fall.

Tuffy, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, I'll keep her in my prayers.

BTW, my Tuffy went to the show yesterday, one first in a class of 3 (Weanling Halter), and one 3rd in a class of 25 (Color Halter, Open).

Becky, I like your new saddle, waiting for pictures of you in it. I hope it and you and Harley are broken in by the CTR, that ought to be a major loss of weight for him to carry.

Hair, I love the pictures of your part of the country. There is so much green and trees. I don't know what's with Cyn's eye. Maybe a cold in her eye?

Cindy, your bike is my kind of bike :) although I'd need training wheels. I have never been balanced well enough, or maybe confident enough to ride a bike any distance without accident.

Rose, fingers crossed that you sell your houses soon and can get moved. I want one of those puppies so bad (like I need another animal around here)

AM - You look like you are having so much fun going over that fence :)

It took me forever to read all the posts because I was so far behind, so I apologize for commenting to everyone on one post - my computer is so slow, answering each one would take all day. :)

Thanks for your prayers, ya'll. We're gonna need 'em.

ALS was the first thing I thought of and she said that it's been ruled out but she hasn't had many tests. She's just starting the big ones this week. What's weird is that she says nothing hurts, she'll just be walking around the house and boom, legs buckle under her. The last time it happened, she said her legs were like jelly the rest of the day. First couple of times it happened, they would buckle, she would stay down for a few minutes, then get up like nothing happened. It's bizarre.

I'm glad you checked in.... I was wondering about you this morning! Congratulations on the first in the weanling class, but even more so, congratulations for that third in the open class! For a weanling to win when competing against mature horses, the judge certainly saw something in him you should be very proud of!

If it is a "cold" in Cyn's eye.... what would you do? I don't want to ignore eye troubles if we should treat it, but I don't want to be over-reactionary either. With the exception of the white eye boogers, the eye seems fine, not otherwise watery or puffy.

Thanks, we were pretty proud of them yesterday, even though Tuffy did come over a stall door and skin up his back legs.

I'd just watch her eye right now. If there's any change for the worse, I'd call a vet. Eye problems can sometimes lead to a loss of vision or at least night vision if untreated, but right now it doesn't sound bad.
