This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Pretty picture! My grey Arab was dark when wet, because like Smokey, under that light colored hair was black skin.
You gotta give us snake warnings. That thing still has a head on it.
He has the bucksin color too, and his mane is half brown, half white where that stops, but of course it's on the other side!
I cannot answer why!
He's very pretty. I love Sarah Lee's blond mane but Okies is so preety too. His is black, white, brown, and straw colored.
He is a great horse. He was used to teach children to ride.
He LOVES to have his rear end rubbed and will lick your hand to the bone if you let him! I have crawled under him to put stuff on a wound and he hasnt moved a muscle.
I would not call him pretty though! When he is dry and white, he always looks dirty. His face looks old too and we think he may be older than we were told.
He is great to ride though and perfect for someone like me.
When he has finished his feed, he'll push his bucket under the fence for you to re-fill it the next time! A bit different from Lightning who would play toss and catch with his till it ended up on a cow in the next field! LOL
I think he's pretty.
Tape their mouths? Nah the laughter too precious:')
I think Sugar is pretty but we have had people asking to buy Smokey (not for sale) and nobody has asked about Sugar! : ( Each to their own I guess! : )
Sugar is just special to me because she is the first horse I have really ridden and bonded with. We have a good trust between us and she is accomodating to my trials and errors on getting her saddled up! She always talks to me a lot and answers me! : )
Deaconjim likes Smokey best, bigger solid horse!
It sounds like you have a fantastic time! I love to play with my kids and make them laugh. The other day Jacob and Emma were cooking and I was being the one that passed them the ingredients. I had them in stitches by calling everything differnt names like out of a witches spell book! Tadpole soup, toads eyes etc they could hardly see what they were doing for tears of laughter! : )
Would Smokey be more buckskin if he was faded from the sun?
Becky
Whew....I'm glad I'm taking a break tomorrow from riding, heat index of 105! But a cold front on Sat. I will ride Sat, Mack has to work since he was off so much this week due to rain. It is suppose to rain on Sun.
Becky
Um Don't know!
Sat should be good for riding then. Deaconjim is off tommorow, but we have lots of puppies to go to the vets!
It would have been nice to ride tommorow, but our friends are leaving for Texas Sat, so are coming to say goodbye tommorow. I will be baking my Cornish pastie meat pies that i do. I bake about 4 pies at a time and they take me about 2 hours to prepare. : )
Well, I'm gonna stay close I guess. Eddies boss gave us his condo on the beach for the weekend. So depending on how Sarah Lee feeling I might get some light riding in too.
This is kind of a stupid question, but has anyone's horses reacted strangely to a full moon? Last night there was a full moon and all the horses at the barn were pretty spooky. It may have been because it got cooler though.
I worked nights at a very busy ER for years. Statistics don't back it up but with a full moon I could expect a busy night. More babies being born, gun shots, fights, overdoses you name it. I don't know about horses at nights but I do know that the ones around here get energized and playful with cool weather and nervous with bad weather when in the barn. Add a full moon and .....
Good morning
Becky
