This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well, I've always got asprin around. I pretty much take them for everything. Anything more severe then an ache or pain we have t run to town to get something or do without. We usually do without:)

Oh - I don't know.... your bridle's holding up well with the knot tied in it.... I think it's still got some use left in it!
Heh... yeah... we need to try on this other one and see if it'll work.
I dunno - I figure if I end up bleeding, they'll send someone to fix it. If my horse ends up bleeding, I'll have to fix it myself. ;~\
HHMMMMM, that's interesting. If you ever try one, let me know if it works. Maybe something I should try if Harley get silly at the CTR. That's about the only thing I can't even make a guess about about how he is going to be.

I've never seen a horse that would pull on a mechanical hackamore. You might get head tossing if you manhandle them, but you won't get in any of the same kind of pulling matches you can get with a mild bit they can grab and pull back with when they're chomping to go.
The other day I was trying to check the threads. The 3, 4 , and 5 y/o over and would not leave me alone. Finally, I told them "that's it. I've had it" and picked up a roll of vet tape and tied them together. That's good stuff. Of course when they got loose then it was my turn to get "tied up"
Speaking of using horse medicine on non-horses, I ran into this guy out on a trail ride who had his dog with him and I noticed that his dog was missing a lot of hair on his head so I asked him about it. He said that his dog had gotten a cut on it's head and he'd put that yellow nitrofurazone ointment on him, thinking that if it worked on the horses, it'd work on the dog. But it took the hair off the dog everywhere he applied it. I didn't know whether to believe him or not. Have any of you ever used any nitrofurazone on a dog?
LOL!! I love it! And I imagine it's very effective, but I'd think you'd need to tape their mouths too or you'd never get any Quiet to go with your temporary Peace. ;o)
Yeah - I have used nitrofurazone on dogs quite a bit... on Gidget's nervous licking hot spots on her legs in particular. NF and wrap it. Never taken the hair off and it's certainly gotten onto areas that still had hair.
I think use on dogs is even described on the label.
Well then he was just shooting me a line of crap. I shoulda known. It looked like mange to me. He probably just didn't want to admit it.
I suppose it's possible for a particular animal to have a sensitivity or allergy to it.... but it seemed to do some good on Gidget.
The heading read...
114 POUNDS

I just loved it. It looks like one of those classic redneck "Hey y'all, WATCH THIS!" moments that's usually followed by somebody either getting killed or maimed for life. And the snake still looks to be alive and well and all they've got between them and it is a (maybe) 30inch axe handle! Snakes can strike 2 or 3 times their body length...this snake looks to be at least 5 feet long...do the math...that axe handle ain't near long enough. JEEZ, some people are just eat up with the dumb @$$! ;o)
Gads! That thing could swallow a small dog.
Yep. I don't know what kind of snake it is, but it's a rattler of some sort. It's head looks to be as big as my fist. There's no telling how much venom is in there.
Wonder how old it is.
I sure as heck wouldn't want to meet that thing in real life. Gads!
There's no telling. But I sure as hell wouldn't stick around to find out.
{But it's still a big-@ss snake and they're still WAY too close to it, I don't care what they say} ;o)
he also has some buckskin on the other side but it was raining so this is the side you get! : D
Isn't it amazing how a white horse can change so much when wet!
