This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
LOL! Probably not though. Blade bred Truly 2 weekends in a row about 2 weeks after he was gelded. I didn't even know she was in heat. I had been riding and stopped by my in-law's where he was stabled and turned her out in the pasture with him and my older gelding while I gook a dip in the pool and found them going at it shortly thereafter. I was flaggergasted. I did the same the next weekend because I didn't think there was any way she would still be in heat, but SHE WAS, and we had a repeat performance. But nothing came of it. It would've been fine with me if it had because it would've saved me the $300 I paid to have her bred back that year. It takes about a month or so for their testosterone levels to go down enough that they care about mares anymore.
He did walk up and stood right in front of Rusty, and started patting him right in the face. I really don't like that sort of thing, especially when I'm on the horse.
I agree. When I teach a beginner to ride one of my rules is to get them to understand that a mounted horse is off-limits for petting and I teach them how to politely ask the ground-bound not to pet the horse while they're mounted. Same horse, same place, same time, rider on the ground, OK. But it's soooo hard to get people to think like a horse.
I think you and Rusty did fine in an environment that was not really horse friendly with all the boogers, esp. the Great Dane. Rusty is a good horse and will find a good home, I don't think that this one may be it.
Good Luck, Buck.
Oh I rode on my own every day, my horse, or other horses. Of course, I was there at least 12 hours a day, at least in the summer when I wasn't in school. I went in the morning to grain, and usually tacked up my horse and rode him. After that, lesson kids started to come, and the official day began. During the school year it was more difficult. (I'd been doing it on an official capacity since I was sixteen) Young, I know, but I knew the place inside and out, having been there since I was nine and doing barn all the barn chores even then. We didn't take any borders, so it was easier then you might think. We did have an extremely large lesson program, though
I bounce. People tell me I don't but my kidneys banging against my brain tells me I do:')
:-D
I don't mind the bouncing so long as I don't feel like I'm falling out of the saddle!
LOL!! I figured that it was the boobs bouncing that gave it away. ;o) I've seen some women that I was afraid were gonna get black eyes. All I could think was, "Lady, get a sports bra, that looks painful!". Sadly, I don't have that problem. I couldn't get a good bounce outta my boobs if I was riding a pogo stick. ;o)
I squeeze anything that might bounce into spandex... I sometimes feel I can't bend in the middle, but I don't bounce ;~D
That's why I love Waylon.....he's a gaited horse and it is such a smooth ride.
good morning
Becky
Good morning becky. I was trying to find my cat this morning that is about to pop and glanced up at Sugar in the ditance to see RED all over her back and thighs and bottom! SH!T I thought and ran out to the field. Thank goodness it wasnt blood! It was a reddy purple and heaven knows where she got it from. My only thought was that she must have rubbed up against the red gate and the color came off? First time this has happened and they werent cheap gates, but the only thing I can think off. Smokey is in a different field right now as we have more grass than we have horses!~
Scared the living daylights out of me though..!
Sounds to me like you have poke berries around. They leave reddish purple stains on horses, and it's very hard to wash out. I had a gray one time get into some poke berries on his mane during the puke rock faze:), he fit right in:)

Well maybe there are some at the end of her pasture. I mowed the two large fields about a week ago so she will be moved back into one of them today, I'll check out her pasture then. Are they posionous to horses? Will they eat them?
I "think" they are toxice after the berries come out, but I've had them around here for years and the horses have never ate them. The plants can get very very big. I've had them as high as my panels. very busy. I think the horse just like to roll on the berries:)

Good morning ladies!
That BackCountry Horsemen club ride and dinner event is today and tonight. First riders don't go out till 1:00, so we've kindof got most of the morning to get ready.
I've got some pictures loading of the ones around here.
Becky
Good morning all.
Sharn, how is the house-selling business goiung? I know you are anxious to start your move.
We've had such nice rains here in the hill country in South Texas. Very grateful for them.
I am still riding that monster giant appaloosa every day, and tending to my Thoroughbred's wound. I am going to try to put Vitamin E oil on it when it gets a little more healed up. I have heard that is supposed to minimize scars.
Will check back in later today.
Oh, so you decided to go. Great:), have fun!
