Long year?

It's shaping to be a long week, chica.

One day at a time. We'll see how it goes.

Wanna hear the most irritating little tidbit yet? In order to make sure that Rebecca is placed in the Spanish class for non-Spanish speakers - I have to fill out a form.

Otherwise, the students are automatically placed in the Spanish for Spanish speakers class.

She got a "C" in Spanish last year because they stuck her in the wrong class and she didn't tell me anything until I asked her why she got a "C".

*sigh*

And this is verbatim from the school packet they sent home:

Home Learning: Your child will receive home learning everyday. It must be completed and turned in daily; it is part of your child's effort grade. On occasion, a home learning assignment will be given a letter grade. Home learning that is not turned in on time will be marked late, unless your child is absent. If your child is absent he/she will have one day to make up the work.
* As part of home learning, your child is required to read or 30 minutes at home everyday and log it. Sign the reading log daily!

Send a note to the teacher: "Then what do we need you for?"

And they wonder why people think there's something wrong with the system.

And what the heck? Automatically assume they speak Spanish? Um, no offense, but that's bloody stupid!

Oh, fer the luvva...

There's an interesting question buried in there. The mere concept of "Spanish for Spanish speakers" means that they are teaching Spanish as a "first" language instead of a second language.

Think about that...

Why?

Shouldn't everybody be guided toward English as an eventual FIRST language, ESPECIALLY for elementary school kids? Why would it *ever* make sense to saddle a kid with second-rate english skills?

Answer: To create more dependency and more democrat voters.

Arrrgh. :-)
