I thought they got the FF characters and their interactions just right. I was disappointed in the changes made to Doom's character though; in the comic he has no powers of his own, he wears a suit of powered armor (of his own devising). Also, in the comic Doom is the despot ruler of a small Middle or Eastern European country (it's moved around over the years). Of course, since we last see him loaded on a ship bound for Latveria (his home country) maybe that will come about in the next movie.

The action felt a little flat and rushed to me, and I didn't care for the resolution of the fight with Doom. Reed should have come up with a device to siphon off Doom's energy instead of the lame trick they used. Reed is the smartest man in the Marvel Universe, after all; his superpower is his brain, the stretching thing is just a talent he picked up along the way.

Anyway... re-watched X2 earlier this evening, and it still impresses me. I think if Brian Singer had done FF it would have been much better. It gives me hope for his version of Superman, which is supposed to be out sometime next year I think.

I just realized how much of a fanboy I sound like, gah...

Meh, Superman doesn't excite me. Too little "common man" about him.

Ok, I'm glad Reed has a better power than stretching because, honestly, that was just a bit silly. Couldn't quite figure out why the others were listening to him, either, but if he's really smart and not just sort of smart, that makes sense.
