I once went to church with a girl that was in high school...I was already a nurse by then and working. Anyway, this girl just reminding me so much of me when I was her age...a square peg. A friendly slightly off-kilter square peg that never fit in.

I started doing this kind of stuff for her. (I ok'ed it with her mom, who was thrilled.) I would have pizzas delivered to the high school for her "and her firends". I would have flowers delivered and balloon bouquets! To the high school! LOL!!! Every month or so I would do something that made her feel so out of the ordinary special. I did it for two years, till she graduated. When she graduated, I told her. She cried! She'd known of me from church but had no idea I was who was doing it. It made me feel so good...I got a lot out of it too.

Even after she went off to college, she would write me or call me and just talk. She sent me a patchwork pillow that I used till it fell apart. We gradually lost touch, but she was fitting in to life just fine the last I heard.

That was my argument today. Why not give your employees a full 24 hours to prepare for the storm?

Why risk your employees lives driving home in those kind of conditions? What about if the streets are too flooded fir them to get home at all?

But we know why, sis. The. Bottom. Line.

We're no more important to them than a printer or a fax machine.

Sad, but true.

Hi there! I hope you've got either a.) something heavy to hold onto so's not to blow away, or b.) something light to hold onto so's not to sink!

:-)

I should be working. There's a meeting tomorrow that I'm not ready for. [sip] Maybe later. [sip]

hehehe...

It should be OK. My bedroom has no windows, so we'll ride out whatever the storm turns out to be in here.

How's it shaping up? Gonna be a cat 1 by the time it hits shore, last I heard. Problem is, that puts you in the NW quadrant...? That's a bummer.

We're not sure yet. If it comes in north of us, we'll have a mess but not too bad.

If it dips south of us, it'll be more wind and longer recovery.

I'm still hoping it'll be a tropical storm north of us. :-D

Here' hoping it's no more than a heavy breeze with light rain. Stay safe, Ruthy.

You too, Sam

Be assertive, call at 0900.

Think so? Even though I already left a message?

You're probably right. Ugh...just wish I knew why they took so long to send me the letter! Last job I applied for there...the system cut off part of my address, and I never got the original letter. I'm hoping that didn't happen again, and they sent this to me after one was returned...i.e. others have already been interviewed long ago. Probably not, I guess.

I'm just telling myself again and again that I got prayer warriors lookin' out for me...

Went out to dinner with some friends. I have a feeling I'll be putting up my shutters in the morning. I hope she can go just a little further north. At the very least, I'd like to be hit by the weak side of Katrina, if we must take the hit.

Hmmm! Well, I have a pair of loafers I'm probably gonna wear ... closed toe, flat heel.

I bought one of those two-piece skirt combinations with the gauzy floral pattern skirt and the solid top. The top is teal, and the skirt is yellow/green/lavender/blue. It feels so light and cool, which is important, since the heat index was 109 today!

This place is supposedly casual ... I'm gonna wear the flats, though, I think.

<laughing!> I went on an interview once wearing a power suit, stockings, heeled pumps, and makeup.

The guy interviewing me was wearing jogging shorts and a t-shirt two sizes two small. No shoes, no socks, and, I believe, no underwear.

For the interview, we sat down side-by-side on a saggy couch about six inches off the floor (it was a choice of that or a beanbag) with a bedspread thrown over it.

Somehow, I got that job ... more's the pity ...
