The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I had it on a sticky note that got lost under some debris on the desk. It's on the phone with the fax number now.

I still do not understand how I can be at once offput by the whole vileness and yet wholly entertained by the comedy of it. It's a South Park thing, I guess.
I'm pretty sure the Lord has a good sense of humor. That's why he gave us one.

That's so out of character for you. Not exactly. Marzen is a beer. :-)
Gordon Biersch Brewery, San Francisco. After Anchor Steam, just about the only good thing left in this town.

"And spotteth twice they the camels before the third hour. And so the Midianites went forth to Ram Gilead in Kadesh Bilgemath by Shor Ethra Regalion, to the house of Gash-Bil-Betheul-Bazda, he who brought the butter dish to Balshazar and the tent peg to the house of Rashomon, and there slew they the goats, yea, and placed they the bits in little pots. Here endeth the lesson. "
It's because it sounds like something out of Leviticus, and you know it isn't.

Hehe... You know... I think it is entirely possible that the Lord invented wine for His *own* use, just to be able to deal with *us*.

Hey Rosie! Any news yet?
Wanna live in San Fran? :-) (just kidding)
I just had somebody quit, giving 2wks notice this morning. Not a huge surprise really. Long story, but it was somebody that really needed to get outta that place for his own good.
Before you take me seriously... no... there may be no position here. We may not replace this person. And believe me... you *do not* want to live in the Bay Area on what this job pays.
Neither did he, as it turns out. :-)

No news, really. Should be getting a call to set up an interview on the job-I-want-most. And I hadda recruiter call me about another job this morning. He was going to submit my resume to his client, and we'll see from there. It'd be good pay, if they take him up on what he thought he could get for salary. And in town, which is always nice, even if it's out of bus range.
Heh...my brother just moved out of SF. I know enough not to wanna live there. ;-) Though he did think it was a very pretty place, if they could just move the current population out, and bring down the cost of living.

Whoa... just finished watching the National Geographic special Inside 9/11. I'm pretty drained living through all that again.

Prayers for your family members.
And thank you from all of us for giving that knife to our 'mean hombra' soldier.

My head is bowed, my eyes cast down; my escutcheon is besmirched; a bar sinister gules will be blazoned upon my arms; my descendants will add the phrase "au Spammant" to their names unto the twelfth generation; I shall be named Keeper of the Potted Meat, and my deeds thus far stricken from the Chronicle (or, if they be too well-famed, attributed to Sir Alain de Smithee); such other entails of dishonor can be thought on, will attach. For I have spammed most horribly in the sight of my brethren (and sistren, and down in the cistern too), such as is not to be borne. I am struck speechless by this remarkable display.... But not fooled ;~)

Dang. Had another reply to you all typed up and accidently closed the window. Arrgh.
I was gonna submit for your consideration the alternative of using a temp agency as your recruiter, if these current options don't pan out.
Honestly, I've started using temp agencies (in my case, Robert Half, Inc.) instead of putting out a call for resumes. The quality of people I've gotten this way has just been extraodinary. Maybe twice I've had to request a different person from RHI, but so far I've hired five out of five of RHI temps to permanent positions. One in Phx, one in LA, one in SF, one in DC and one in Bellevue.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this sort of hiring practice. Lots of people must be doing it.

I've had temp positions turn into real job offers more often than not, as you might remember.

I applied at Man Power, but they told me it was almost hopeless that I'd find anything through them. Though of course they said it more nicely. ;-)
I can check Robert Half...probably should. They must have a website where I could register, I'd think.

They operate under a few different names.... Around here, Robert Half does business as OfficeTeam and Accountemps.
