The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Sounds like it was a good, much needed conversation.

Heh - Looks like the 'situation' has mutually resolved itself.

I'm glad you had this talk with Celeste, 2J! I hope you're on your way to mending things.

Here's some trail ride pics from today, we got back a little while ago and we're pooped! (pics)

Good evening!

I made Italian sausage and pasta sauce and ziti for dinner, and then went for a walk...kinda short 'cause it's threatening rain, though this being Colorado, it'll probably threaten all night but never actually start dripping. *sigh* I gotta readjust my weather thinking, and it's really confusing me!

Now I'm having a glass of wine, getting caught up here, and reading. Just wish boiling pasta hadn't increased the humidity in here to the unbearable point. Ugh.

Evening.... we grilled some burgers when we got back, now I'm ready for a nap.

Mmmm...burgers! *sigh* Wish we were allowed a real grill here. There are community ones down in a central courtyard, but that's it.

I think I'm gonna hit the hay early here, too. Been sleepy all day for some reason. Besides, I want to try getting up early to walk in the mornings. Haven't really committed to anything like that since I've been out here...or since last fall, really.

I'm thinking probably tomorrow I'll get a call to set up the interview time. Eek! I've been able to not think about it overly much this weekend, but as soon as I have the time, I'm gonna be thinking about it a lot...and doing the replay-in-my-head thing afterwards until I feel the final word. I get butterflies thinking this could finally be it!

LOL!

Sure hope so! This is really the job I want! Hopefully that comes across in the interview...but on the other hand, I don't wanna sound desperate. Fine line there. ;-)

I'm just still kinda stuned that I made it *this* far.

Evening Rosie - you'll do fine, you have the entire Hobbit Hole on your side. And you know what the job description is and you are more than capable of performing all the 'other duties as assigned'.

We're all in your corner.

OB & LSA

Back from Gypsygirl's evening walk to and around the park; we can tell it's heading to September, it was dusk when we got back. Gypsygirl was wearing her little flashing red light on her collar, pretty cool little light.

It still hasn't started raining, though when I came back from my walk at a little before seven our time, I thought for sure it was going to start POURING any second.

The sky darkened up and there's almost continual lightning off in the distance, which has gotten more and more impressive as it's gotten dark. The Viking kitties and I have been standing at the screen door watching it. ;-) Natural fireworks - cool!

When I was stationed in San Angelo, that is exactly how it was. We would watch to storms roll in from the distance. They were magnificent.

We had a similar one several nights ago, far enough away the thunder disipated before it reached us. LSA and I watched from the rear porch.

Gypsy took one look at it and promptly put her forehead on the back door and didn't budge until we decided to go in. She was quite relieved to get back inside.

No thunder that we discern, just a wonderful display of lightning.

So I had a weird experience between church and dinner... ping to usual suspects and those who may find this interestin'...

Was headed down the main road at about 6:30, having gotten finished at church, on my way to a free steak dinner that the visiting parents of a classmate were buying. Right up next to college, there are these orange cones and "lane closed" signs, so I get over, only to have to get over into the furthest right lane a second later. That's when I see the 'sobriety checkpoint' signs.

At this point I'm wondering what they're gonna be doing to me and whether I'll be late for dinner. They funnel all the cars into a big parking lot where they've got a couple lanes marked out and probably fifteen officers standing around, they have you pull up to an officer and roll down your window. The guy looks in my car and then asks whether I've had anything to drink today. I said "not alcoholic" which wasn't strictly true since I'd had a little sip of communion wine, but whatever. And I didn't say "not yet", which almost popped out of my mouth.

Then they just had everyone pull forward and go. I have no clue what this was supposed to accomplish. Maybe they were looking for open containers. It delayed me about ten minutes but otherwise I'd have been early, so it worked out ok. Anyone ever had a sobriety checkpoint before, and is that what it normally is like?

I've never been through one. They're looking for people who look drunker than you did to run further tests on.

It's not a good turn of events, that's for sure.
