The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Good morning.

My first summer in Texas (1995) was also my first summer with my own place (I didn't want to live in barracks any more).

That summer I fought the Battle of the Cockroaches...at least one and usually two a day I would chase with a can of raid, and I had roach poison out everywhere.

I won. I think I might have seen two roaches the last summer I was there (1999).

Thanks for the memories. I still miss that place.

What sort of self-respecting CAT could possibly snub salmon.

She's playing mind games.

er, the "ok. So." was *not* a "so what" about the rain!

My apologies. Didn't realize how bad that looked until I saw it posted and such.

*sigh* IT's that kind of day already.

I should go home before I get in real trouble.

So what is there to do in Dallas/Ft. Worth? I'm there most of next week and would like to get a good steak.

*shudder*

When I finally leave Miami, one of my top priorities is moving to someplace that has small cockroaches or none at all.

The little ones don't bother me. It's the ones large enough to throw a saddle on that completely freak me out.

hehehehe...

Moral of last night's story:

Don't play with nurse sharks, vote Democrat or sue God.

I think it is their culture of service to their customers. A salesperson is NEVER rude to a customer! There is also a strict code of behavior on the Metro. When you sit, you move close to the person nearest you so that there is room for another person to sit. You keep any bags or backpacks in your lap or close to you between your legs so that they are not in the way of anyone having to stand in front of you. I believe those are born of the absolute CRUSH of people on the Metro at certain times of the day. In some stations at rush hour, there are "Pushers", the signalmen with batons, who will push at the backs of people in the open doorways to move them further on in to the car so that they can get more people on the car, or so that the doors can close.

We usually tried to avoid riding the trains during that time of day, but the girls were coming home from Shinjuku late on the evening of the Fireworks Festival and got caught in that crush of folks. The 'pushers' were there because they are the signalmen to the driver of the train, and they never had to actually use their batons, but the girls said that it was close!

When the Japanese are tourists, they aren't bound by their strict codes of behavior, after all, they're not in Japan! They may think of us in the same way when we're over there. Apparently loud talking and laughing are frowned upon on the Metro, but we did it all the time. I'm sure there were people watching us and thinking "Gaijin", and not in a good way.

We got almost a quarter of an inch of rain!!! I'm soo glad I mowed yesterday.

Looks like it will be clear for a while so I need to take Gypsy for her morning walk.

Have a great time on your vacation and don't worry too much about Miss Cat, she'll be fine!

I didn't mow because the only thing that needs it is the crabgrass next to the sunroom...hardly worth cranking up the mower.

Know what you mean! I cheated and watered the lawn a couple of times, and even though I pick up after Gypsy, there is enough, ahem, residue, that the backyard stays pretty well fertilized.

Heh. I never water grass...guess that's why I've got the crabgrass. It's been so dry even the weeds in the front yard haven't sent up flower stalks.
