The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

It's hysterical, though...if you get a chance to watch it, make sure you are mildly intoxicated...you'll be rolling.

Me too! I'm really curious! If so, it sure would be cheaper than buying Swansons!
The turkey in Swansons is pretty thin-sliced roast turkey breast. I had them cut roast turkey breast lunch meat at Walmart to about the same thickness.
Also, Swansons is a pound of food, according to the package. Mine weighed 22oz.

An email exchange with a member of an Army aviation unit, who apparently had his expectations set too low:

Thanks for the nice note, Mike. I guess I'll have to be more plain-spoken in our web site.
I work on every knife that goes out. I refuse to send a pocket knife that I would not be proud to carry in my pocket, and will do everything you expect a pocket knife to do.
No sheath knife is chosen, or goes out unless I could depend on it for my life. Period.
You guys deserve nothing less.

It's totally utilitarian, just the way it should be. Nothing on it to break or fail if it gets abused, and it's heavy enough to get through a damn car door. The butt end is absolutly perfect. You could easily knock someone on thier *$$ with it. Thanks much for the tool and for all that you guys are doing for the good guys.

Not to mention all the chemicals that are in the normal ones.
I just wonder a) how the tray will hold up, and b) just how tricky it is to get everything to cook at the right rate, so you don't end up with raw brownie and burnt turkey or whatever.
So...this is interesting. ;-)

Well, after 30 minutes at 350 degrees, the brownie wasn't quite done and it wasn't sizzling as much as I would prefer...so I upped the temp to 375 for another 10 minutes.
Next time I'll try 375 for 30 minutes and see if that works better.

Are you going to post that on the 'fundraiser' thread too? I'll give you a FRMail in a minute of the new names to be added.

I have lost my mind.
This thread made me try to remember why we'd post polka pictures...or am I even off base with that?
Short term memory loss is not a good sign...

To indicate that we'd polka'd the thread? No, that makes no sense.

Well, the brownie was the problem...it got done before the rest of the meal got hot. Had to finish it in the microwave.
What to do? Perhaps if I keep it covered up? Perhaps if I microwave the whole thing instead of baking it?
I'll just keep experimenting. May have to abandon the brownie...can always put additional gravy in that spot. Or another veggie.

Oh, here's what the big chicken looked like prior to baking...
