The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Doesn't look stupid enough. We're on a quest to find the worst of the worst SF/fantasy/adventure/whatever movies.

Well, I don't know that I'd suggest you spend money renting it anyway. But if you surfed thru and caught it on TV...assuming you ever surf TV...then it might be worth having on the background.
It's not that it's such a great movie. But it defines an era for me. So it's more nostalgia.
Plus, you'd get the "breakfast/mini-drama" reference...

He keeps saying the end of August. He was hoping to have the third draft done by the end of last week but it didn't happen...so that goal has been changed to the end of this week.

These are in plastic TV dinner trays I've saved. I wanted to put them in aluminum trays (he has a regular oven at work...they have an entire kitchen), but he said he didn't want to do that, said he wants to microwave them, so now I have to rethink it all.

Yeah, it was a bit unexpected. Had been working on this contract for 10 weeks, and there was a lot of talk of being converted to regular employees (2 out of our original group of 10 contractors had already been converted). But, company decided that they didn't have enough work to keep us all, and let me and another fellow go last Thursday. Because they deal with lots of very sensitive data, they didn't give us any warning whatsoever (they didn't want to chance a disgruntled employee doing something naughty).
Anyway, it's back to more short-term stuff for now. A chance at a 1-day job this week, and another slightly longer project starting soon.

I'd settle for a job with 5 figures as long as the first one was higher than '1'.

Heh... well, what we're really looking for is stuff from the last 25 years or so, so it doesn't have any excuse for being lousy. But we'll keep an eye out.

I think for the ultimate in bad sci-fi, we're gonna hafta do the Netflix thing, or something similar.
And/or get a VCR.

The frozen homemade TV dinner has been popped into the oven...I'm going to give it 30 minutes.
