The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Stopping by to thank those who have posted about donating would be good too... for all of us to do. I'm monitoring and answering questions, but group participation in the thread would be welcome!

Winmag, I think we should remember to add these FReepers to the ping list you use for your product and report updates that you post here, and ecurbh too, when he posts the emails. That way they know their money was well spent on knives and we didn't run off to Jamaica. I'll compile the names and send them to you at the end of the thread. If you have a product or email report you're ready to post, go ahead and post it there too! It would be good good content for people to understand what we do.

Hello everyone!

Just got back from my 2nd trail ride.

It was a lot of fun and pics are uploading now.

Had my first big scare today when my horse took off like a bat outta hell because another horse went after him. Nearly fell off. Seriously.

But I'm proud that I managed to get control of him all by myself without panicking. I was terrified though because I still haven't learned to hold my seat very well. My feet flew out of the stirrups when he took off, so all I had was hands and knees to stop him.

You held your seat well.... you stayed on.

Glad you're OK! And you stayed on...so you must not have done too badly! Way to go!

While you were out getting fresh air and exercise...I walked over to the mall and wandered around. Got a drink from the coffee shop that they called a "Dark Side". Said it had four kinds of chocolate in it, including chopped up dark Belgian chocolate. Vey rich. Kinda like iced Willie Wonka waterfall chocolate. ;-)

I think I should probably skip lunch. But boy, it was worth it!

hehehehe....

I have a feeling that I'll feel terribly saddle sore in the morning. Hopefully, it won't be nearly as bad as last time.

*fingers crossed*

And Rosie, that drink sounds delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

I'm copying my post in the Saddle Club thread since I wanted to share my 2nd trail ride pics with you too!

OK. Here goes.

I apologize in advance for so many pics!

Here I am getting ready. I hadn't stood up in the stirrups yet to get my heels down, so forgive my posture. I shoulda known this horse would be trouble. ;-D

We head out to the trails! I'm on Foyt and Becky got Mocha again. Lucky her! She was so happy!

There was another horse with us today named BlackJack. He was pretty tough and stocky looking with a gorgeous tail that practicaly dragged behind him. Well, unbeknownst to me, he and my horse Foyt have a long-standing fued.

When he hit the pasture, Foyt wanted to go for a trot and I tried holding him back a bit because BlackJack was too close to us. He'd tried to nip at Foyt a couple of times already and I didn't trust him.

Well, Foyt started to fight me a bit and I turned his head back towards me.

Just then, BlackJack (who had another inexperienced rider on him) comes charging at Foyt and Foyt takes off with me totally unprepared!

My feet flew out of the stirrups and I held on to the saddle with one hand, while I used my legs and the reins to slow Foyt down. And I did it!

I took him over to the watering station and had the trail leader hose him (and I) down. We stayed FAR away from BlackJack the rest of the ride. I was terrified and there was a good 5 seconds there where I seriously questioned whether or not I'd be able to hold on.

We got back safe and sound though. :-D

I let Becky say goodbye to her new best friend.

And that was our adventure!

What an adventure!!!

LOL!! The funniest thing I ever saw in my whole born days was Steve trying to ride a horse the first time. It took off at a little trot and with every trot, Steve slid further to the side till he was literally horizontal to the ground and, is the word perpendicular? to the horse! It was hysterical. The horse finally just strolled to a stop, very unperturbed, and Steve slid to the ground. It was a riot and I love to act it out for the boys now and then.

LOL!! I'm tellin' ya, sis - it nearly happened to me.

I was just bouncing away there, never knowing if my rear would land in the saddle on its way down.

Tell Steve I understand how that can happen. And it is funny after the fact. ;-D

Nice pictures! Again...glad you're OK! Adventures are all very well to reminisce about, but rather scary while they're happening!

Not having a very adventurous day myself. Kate and her sister went to explore downtown, so I'm taking advantage of having the house to myself in order to deedle away on the mando and guitar. ;-)

I'm trying to learn a few new tunes, so I'm sure my practicing is even more irritating than usual.

Believe me, it wasn't funny at all at the time.

But, all in all, it was a great learning experience. I'm glad it happened now.

Becky and I are getting ready to head out and meet my sister and nephew.

No problem with thrips?

Last time I got blackberries they were covered in little yellow thrips. Just crawling with them. I even washed them in sudsy water and couldn't get all those thrips off.

I'm working on my TV dinner re-creation. Got everything I need, just need to assemble them.

Steve should be home soon. Sigh...it's just like every other day of the week when he goes to the office to work on the paper on the weekend.

Oh, I did get one of the teacher's editions that I won from ebay today...and I'm thrilled with it. It's used but looks absolutely brand new! I gave the seller a glowing feedback.
