The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yikes... I had the orthodontia from hell. The teeth were good, but there were too dang many of them and too small a jaw to fit them all. Had TEN (10) permanent teeth removed and was in braces for EIGHT (8) years.
Gawd that was awful. Especially for a Trombone player. Blech.

Jr. had braces for about four years. And he had several teeth removed. They're talking about the surgery where they'd have to break the jaw to realign it. Nasty stuff.
But thedoctor said it would be best to wait until he was 18-19 to make sure his jaw is fully grown.

Yikes. I was lucky enough to avoid that. I had a friend who made all-state as a freshman whose trumpet playing was pretty well ended by braces.

I'm such a dork sitting here laughing like a loon over that pic.
It isn't very nice of me, is it?
But it's funny!

My mom won't let me get an artificial tree.
Truth be told, I do prefer the real ones. The smell is wonderful and just can't be duplicated.
The needles make a terrible mess though. We're still finding them in corners on Easter!

We bought an artificial tree the first year we did the Christmas show. It has to go up the day after Thanksgiving or we don't get it put up until after the show. I was tired of the one we had. So I put it in the yard sale.
I'm looking around at the site where Lil' bought hers last year.

I found a good work around. I used to cut pieces from the sleeves of t-shirts and overlay them over the braces and it worked pretty well. I carried a little box of pre-cut pieces in my trombone case.
Made all-state and all-northwest... anyway...
The orthodonist provided some wax covers for the braces that were supposed to work for brass players but they were horrid. It was like playing with somebody else's thumb under your lip. Didn't work so well. But the little cotton t-shirt pieces were perfect. In fact I'd gotten so used to playing with them in place it was wierd when the braces were finally removed. Had to totally re-train the embouchure.
Embouchure. Now *there's* a word I haven't used in a while. :-)
