The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well at least I found out that one of the wineries in Oregon that we visited has a distributer nearby. Guess I won't have to have wine shipped to OB and run across the border. :)

That... and maybe tell you to wear shoes outside for awhile.... would DEET or some kind of repellant help with spiders? I don't know.

I've been getting bit by something that is leaving a larger welt than a mosquito, not sure if it's been happening at home or on trail.

I use a bug spray to keep off the skeeters. But no doubt I'm walking into the spiders. I'm gonna have to do something about that. Luke and Nana are never outside barefoot, and Luke doesn't really play in the back yard. But still, it concerns me.

I'm not sure what you get to kill spiders.

Whatever you used to kill spiders would likely kill everything... careful around your bird feeder, and you'd have to keep Sam out of there for awhile.

That's why I always end up a little stifled about spraying anything poison.... too many critter considerations.

Googling around, there are some non-toxic options to get rid of them. Seems like they're most likely in the garage, not the yard.

They like cardboard boxes and paper bags. Our garage is a brown paper bag sanctuary. And I'm out there more than anyone (cause, FWIW, I'm the only one who really does any work around the house, but that's another story).

We'll start there, and we'll keep Nana and Luke out of the garage.

It's PURTY out there! If it stays relatively cool like it's supposed to, it'll be an almost perfect summer day.

Yup, should be a good hiking evening, I hope! Wondered where you'd got to this morning...

Church, mostly. Got to meet our new associate pastor / parochial vicar. So far I'm impressed. He was very reverent, though he did seem a little nervous. Considering he's only been in the country a day and a half and probably doesn't know the language perfectly, I'd say he's doing very well. ;-)

Ah... ok, well then. I just didn't see Van-sama so I wasn't sure if you'd gone to church or not.

It's going to be a long, long day; the stalker's been back here once already.

During the summer I've generally been driving there...with school not in session, it's easy to find parking.

Ah, makes sense.

Anime night has been moved to tomorrow so tonight should be perfect for an evening hike...

I'm toying with the idea of going to that bluegrass jam tonight (it starts at eight), though I'm nervous about parking.

You should go. I don't actually know what jam you're talking about but you should go. Show up early and park.

It's the one at Avagadro's Number. On Mason - almost exactly one street over from the Ugliest Building in the World.

I'm mostly nervous about parking and about going alone. Of course, going one time might be enough to mean I had friends next time.

So park at the Ugliest Building, the lots are public after 6.
