The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Afternoon, just finished up giving Louise, our 15 year old cat a bath. For an arthritic, overweight, radiator or AC couch potato-she is loud, quick and strong. Got the bandaids to prove it.

Oatmeal shampoo and herbal conditioner, hmm. wonder if it would work on my hair?

Our other cat, Annie watched, some would say with glee but she would feign indifference if she thought we were looking in her direction.

Gypsygirl was concerned about all the screaming and hissing, once she determined that we were helping, not hurting, Louise, Gypsy settled down to give Louise moral support. Whew.

Hmmm. Louise isn't glaring anymore, it's wonderful how a good meal with make things seem all better. Guess that's true for hobbits as well, so I thinks it's time to eat.

Heh...I still wanna figure out how to carry my Shootmoot knife concealed...

You can use that rubber strap on the sheath for inside-the-waistband carry. Just remove that plastic belt clamp.

Or carry it on a neck chain, underneath your shirt. Just remember to use use one of those chain-of-beads chains, like are used on dogtags. If somebody grabs it, you want the chain to break, and not your neck.

How does that rubber strap thing work?

I'm dense...I unsnapped it when I first got it and I've never been able to get it snapped again quite all the way. I've tried doing the dot side first, but it still doesn't snap.

I gave Sam a bath this afternoon. His fur came out in clumps.

Afterwards I cleaned up enough hair to knit two small dogs, and afghan and a pot holder...

Not to worry, Labs have three coats, you were probably only working on the top coat. Labs do shed, LSA swept up enough hair from ol Gifford to stuff a couple mattresses. Dang, that dog could shed, but he had many redeeming qualities including the ability to 'clear a room'. Still miss that dog.

hehehehe...

It's incredible how short-haired dogs seem to shed far worse than their long-haired brethren.

Evenin' everyone!

I'm watching some Titanic documentary on Discovery Channel.

Figured out the snap. How does that work for inside-the-waistband carry? Snap to a belt loop somehow?

I also do have a dogtag chain, so there's always that.

I wouldn't want to have to attempt giving either of my kitties a bath without plenty of drugs. Suppose I could probably wrap 'em in a towel and wash them IN the towel if I had to. Heh...

It wouldn't be pretty.

Hmm. drugs. OH, kitty type drugs. I can definitely see that as a viable alternative to welder's gloves.

I tried giving Miss Cat a bath once. It's no fun chasing a wet, soapy cat around the bathroom.
