The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'm doing OK. Way better than a week ago. :-)

well, granted it is not in the same class, the alligator snapping turtle often hangs out in came habitat niche that the big ol' catfish do.*shudder*
We only had the regular kinda snapping turtle back home, so far as I know. But I have a vey healthy respect for even tiny ones. They're amazingly powerful.
Used to be a very large one that lived in the pond near our house - could still be there, so far as I know. Rumor had it that every spring he'd pick off at least a few of any ducklings that showed up...pull 'em under.

I don't think I've ever shared this story here before, but forgive me if I have.
Once, during a slumber party I was hosting for my friends (I was maybe 11 at the time), my dad decided to put on The Birds and turn off all of the lights.
Halfway through the movie, when all of us little girls were suitably scared, my dad comes strolling by us on his way to the kitchen.
The kitchen had a door that led to the garage and as he walked by it, he turned to us and asked if we heard anything.
We all shook our heads, numb with this sudden creepy addition to our already rattled nerves.
He told us to turn down the TV and he sloooowly turned the knob and creaked open the door just a bit.
Then, he suddenly throws it open and starts yelling and flailing about as if he was being attacked by the birds.
Man, you ain't never seen girls scream and run like that ever.
He always pulled stuff like that one us.
And we fell for it every time.

It is sad when a mother has to speak the words that condemn her own son. I can't allow them to think I would commit murder. Put him away now as I should have years ago. He was always bad and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man, as if I could do anything but just sit and stare like one of his stuffed birds. They know I can't move a finger and I want to just sit here and be quiet just in case they suspect me. They're probably watching me. Well, let them. Let them see what kind of a person I am. I'm not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching... they'll see. They'll see and they'll know, and they'll say, "Why, she wouldn't even harm a fly..."Above being the lines that go with that pic of Norman. ;)

I'll share one more to show how incredibly dense I was to not have learned a thing about not hosting parties.
I had another slumber party when I was 14-ish. We all packed into the den and decided to watch Friday the 13th.
There was a window right above the TV that was left open since it was cool that night.
Now, I had warned all of my friends that my dad was a weirdo and he would definitely try to scare us at some point, so we kept an eye out for him.
Well, after a while we let our guard down and my dad snuck out the front door and went around to the back of the house where the window was.
Just as that scary ch-ch-ch ha-ha-ha sound came on, he jumped up making a hideous roaring sound and nearly came through that open window. Did I mention he had so courteously put on a Michael Myers-type mask?
He later said that the funniest part was the mass collision of bodies that leapt up, trying to get out of the den at the same time, so that no one managed to get out without some kind of bruise.

Evening Rosie, yes, got a healthy respect for them myself. Sticking my hand in a submerged root wad or under a rock overhang in hopes of withdrawing an intact hand and a hopping mad catfish...hmmm. Let me ponder on that a bit.

Yes, I'm a sad case ...I hang out on the milblogs and the black conservative sites, and with folks like Michelle Malkin and PowerLine.
Everything here looks kinda new ... and, yet, the same!
Actually, I do lurk here every night for a few minutes. But I miss not being able to settle down for a nice conversation.
How're things going for you?
