The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'm afraid it's going to be a battle.Don't be afraid. It's going to be fun to watch.

Gooood morning!
It's 90 degrees on the cheese thermometer. NINETY FRICKIN DEGREES with humidity.
Ugh.
Fortunately I have a fancy-pants meeting in a building with AC. Unfortunately it doesn't last all day. Fortunately I brought a change of clothes because my fancy-pants outfit won't do for 90 degrees.

Well, we're going to power down all of our systems. Puters don't like this kind of heat.
So hasta everyone. Talk to ya later!

Good morning!
Oh, I love coffee! I love my cup of coffee that I find sitting on my bedside table every morning.
I love Steve for putting it there before he goes off to work!
I don't love Katie Couric. She makes me sick.

She's got a panel of people talking about Jude Law. I vaguely know who Jude Law is, and I just don't think he's worth this much attention with all that's going on in the world...
Let's get a panel up there to discuss the SCOTUS nomination...then I'll take you series, Katie.
I guarantee, you get a nanny that's 65 years old and you won't have your fiance piling up in the bed with her.

Hair's description of a calm ocean...

The Atlantic at Nags Head just hours after Hurricane Alex blew thru...

It's just a different world I reckon. If the surf was like it is in that top picture, the red flags would be out. 'Course a lot of it is based on the undercurrents and the rocks/reefs that you can't see. The OBX is known as "The Graveyard of the Atlantic" for all the ships that sank off the coast.

These were two sources of pride in cleaning the chickens:
...First of all, I was responsible for cleaning the gizzard. Now the gizzard, as you may know, consists of a yellow leathery pouch in which grit is collected and the feed is ground up by the grit like teeth. It is surrounded by a muscle. You don't want the pouch, you want just the muscle. My first point of pride was I was able to cut open the gizzard muscle (with my ShootMoot knife) without cutting into the pouch and peel out the leathery pouch in one piece. After I did so, I noted that the pouch did indeed contain grit, which tells me my chickens had access to it, something they wouldn't have had if they'd just ate feed alone. Somewhere, out in the lawn, while snacking on grass and crickets and flowers, those birds scratched up the grit they needed. I'm just pleased they got what they needed.

Jr. said he was served chicken heart in Brazil. Said it was "rubbery."
He's also pretty sure they were served what he described as...um...cow "package"...
