The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
|
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

I'm trying to straighten up a bit as Jen and her sister should be back tonight.
It's complicated by the fact that Tam has decided he needs to be held all day, and is telling me so loudly and often. Hard to ignore a Siamese protesting at full voice.

Evening?
I wish.
Then it might be cooler.
We have no AC again. We're well past cheese on the dairy thermometer.
But I can't complain too much. Our troops are putting up with worse. *MUCH* worse.

That's right!
As much discomfort we may suffer, our troops are suffering more.
Hope you have AC at home.

Yeah. But it's not the heat. It's the humidity. Ugh. I'll take 100 degrees in NM any day.

We've got heat (supposed to keep climbing to about a hundred), but it's also extremely dry...like 15%, I think.
I'm still not driven to spend much time outdoors!

Same temperature as here...plus the humidity!
Ugh. At least we don't have that.
I'll be happier come September or so, though.

I've actually never had a mint julep.
Sad, isn't it, my existence?

I don't drink much bourbon anymore. But when I did, I just drank bourbon and water. Never really got into the mint part...
But don't tell nobody. It'd ruin muh Virginia Gentleman image.

I think there are different ways to make them, but here's one recipe:
Mint Julep recipe
Scale ingredients to servings
4 fresh mint sprigs
2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 tsp powdered sugar
2 tsp water
Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass. Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.
