The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well, Steve came home and I took him back to work, so now I have the car.

I went to the Salvation Army and made a bee-line for the spot where I hid the milk bottle. It wasn't there! ~groan~ You know that feeling you get when you just wanna cry but it's too silly or pointless? That's how I felt.

So we went to leave and I told the jedis "Let me just look around...maybe they put it somewhere else." Unlikely, because I'd hid it!

But lo and behold, there it was, in another part of the dishes area, up on the very top shelf! I know it's the same one because it had a "previous" sticker on it...an old price tag from a garage sale or something and that partially pulled-off sticker was still on it.

So the price tag said $1.99 and I went to check out. It was on SALE and I got it for $1.07!

It's a little over 6" tall and it's embossed "Third Quart Liquid" over a place that looks like it ought to have a label. Around the bottom of the glass, it says "Registered" in the front and "Sealed 1-11-14" in the back.

It looks very similar to this one.

Heh! I know it! What an emotional roller coaster that was!

I came home, washed it and it's now in my kitchen windowsill.

I'm gonna need a bigger windowsill one of these days!

It's small...we'll likely use it as a bud vase.

I thought th point was that you could sell it on ebay for $20.

No no!

I collect milk bottles!

I'll be on the lookout for *other* things to sell on eBay.

You know how I always wished I could get someone to deliver milk to my door but they just don't any more? Well, this is kinda the "next best thing". Some milk bottles can get real pricey...I'll likely never buy those, although there is one I really want...WW2 era, with a comment on about how conserving our resources helps insure our freedom. Vey cool, but $45.

~sigh~

But then there's this kinda deal...where someone gets rid of something they don't realize it's worth, so I got it cheap.

This milk bottle was discontinued for the "pint" size. I've found it from $12.50 to $25 online.

OK - Lab moot subchapter 2a - horse moot pictures!

ecurbh and I rode around the property awhile first, while OT sat in the shade and took some pics :~D

Then it was time for us to frighten the company!

We took her on the tour of the property, and promised she wouldn't get hurt and her horse wouldn't take off!

She looks like she's smiling, but this is what she looks like when she grimaces :~D

Whew... She was glad to have her feet on the ground again...

Though she had a successul ride and Cyn was a perfect lady, she said she is not hooked on it and says she prefers to just pet the horses....

Thanks!! It's in great condition. Looks hardly used. My other milk bottle (quart) is quite beat up...all kinds of scratches on the glass and those neat rust marks where it bonked up against the metal milk bottle basket. I like it, though...it looks authentic! It's been well-used.

This one looks like one would expect of a phased-out size.

The pony seems to be fascinated by the proceedings!

Pony follows us around when we ride.... sometimes running up ahead, sometimes goofing off, but always staying close by.

I found this too...at Walmart in the $1 bin! Got it for the jedis. We're going to watch it tonight after we pick up Steve.

The Bravest.

Supposedly it was a series, but I've never seen it! This one has a post 9/11 tribute to FDNY on it, from what I understand. It was actually filmed the summer prior and then the men were lost in the WTC.

Nothing in it the Jedis couldn't see, is there?

*sigh* Another day almost over. Still no phone calls, letters or e-mails with job interview offers. I don't expect to hear anything about the jobs I applied for today for a week or two (though I'll likely call in a few days), but there are plenty of other places I've applied.

I guess some days I'm just more aware of this than others.
