CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE FURRED KIND

A friend of my sister's gave her a new lawn mower
So, she decided to drop by to see if I could get it to run
Well, my four stray cats were up and fed
Wanted to have some fun and definitively show her
Who's Who. What's What. And why did you not call ahead?

Smudge, Fats, Tux and Puddin' sat four abreast
Watching patiently as I rolled the mower o'er the grass and started some tests
While Sis talked to the felines and tried to make friends
Their green eyes tracked, but none did quaver or bend

Only I knew that they were waiting for their food
But to have said so would have been callous and rude
So, I glimpsed as my sister inched glacially closer
My four furry protectors have little time for Posers

First, Puddin' surrendered to my sister's fingers along her chin
Then Fats started rubbing and brushing her shins
While Smudge and Tux stoically stood their ground
Ears straight up. Their Purr Boxes barely making a sound

The cats still stayed put when the mower finally tried to crank
There oil in the crank and gas in the tank
So, I made up a list for my Sis about who to see and what to do
While my Sentinels watched her leave under a sky of blue
