I, too, am for an extremely limited immigration policy, including tighter control of the borders. Who isn't? But if the threat of terrorism is driving this thread, then the REAL panic should be about the border with Canada, not Mexico. Thousands of miles of unchecked crossover points and a very liberal immigration policy in Canada should scare everyone.
We'll all be ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY as our borders are erased.

I proposed land mines in addition to boots on the ground. The moving and shifting could be solved by placing the mines between entrenched walls that run say six feet below the ground. The main purpose of the mines would be to deter unauthorized invasion. The onus would be placed on the invaders to ensure they didn't get blown apart while trying to invade our country. If the US side perimeter was protected as well as say our nuclear plants I'd have no problem living there. Why all the emphasis on nonlethal means to repel invaders? How nonlethal were they on 911 or today when they blew up the buses? They had no concern for the women and kids in that subway or on the buses. This soft peddling nonlethal attitude is counterproductive to fighting a war. What happened to all the post 911 "you're either with us or against us", "dead or alive" spirit. Now surprisingly it seems even FReepers are in favor of fighting a nonlethal PC war. No wonder the enemy thinks we are a weak effete nation.
