Thanks for the Nascar thread this week Norm.

Here's some good news for Darlington..........

COLUMBIA, S.C. - "The Lady In Black" has apparently made it to another year.
Darlington Raceway president Chris Browning said Wednesday that the track got the go-ahead from its owners, International Speedway Corp., to send out ticket renewal letters for another Mother's Day weekend Nextel Cup race. The date of the Carolina Dodge Dealers 500 is May 13, 2006, the night before the holiday.

"I think if there were any other plans (for Darlington), ISC wouldn't let us do this," Browning told The Associated Press.

Wonderful Layout..love the Miller colors!

Mixed feelings about this track, just an hour south of my humble abode. Been there to a Busch race...BORING TRACK..cookie cutter flat, single groove...but that was on the new concrete...

WORST Aspect of this track, owned by Tony George's IndyMotorSpeedway Corp...NO COOLER!! Nope, you can't bring in a couple of beers and a soda pop & sammich!

You are allowed ONE SEALED BOTTLE OF WATER!! That is all...then they offer up higher priced food and drink for you...

Plus, they have taken the preferred seat license to extremes...forcing the purchase of entire packages to get the premium seats. Scalping prices for this race is up there on par with some Bristol seats...Oh well...
Dont think I'll go back, even though it's just an hour away...

Have you seen this?

Atlanta Motor Speedway, Airfield Suffer Damage

Damage to Atlanta Motor Speedway after possible tornado from remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy, Hampton, Georgia

The worst property damage from Wednesday night's storms appeared to be in Henry County where several homes were hit by what officials say was at least one tornado.

Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., suffered significant damage. The track was covered in debris. Roofs and facades were torn off buildings.

Several units at the speedway condominiums were damaged. Five of the 48 units are regularly occupied. Everyone got out safely. The building is currently unoccupied while it is checked for safety. Officials estimate it suffered $50 million in damage.

"My doors flew open and just a bunch of wind a bunch of debris coming in and everything. It was kinda just crazy and after that it just kinda calmed down and after that it was just one big pop. After that all I could hear was just wind blowing," Stevie Monce.

Most of the damage happened between 9:30 - 10 p.m. on Wednesday when the worst bands from Tropical Storm Cindy moved through the area.

"All of a sudden we heard this noise coming and Chris hollered, 'We got to get out of here. We got to get out," said DJ Ray. "We made our way back to the second bedroom and got in the master bath back there and he stayed in the doorway, like this, and I was squated down in the tub... It took my heart about an hour to slow down."

In Clayton County, four airplanes were severely damaged at Tara Field. Some of the planes were overturned, while some were damaged by debris.

Norm, have you ever seen a race start with a green/yellow like last week?

I understand the reason, it was getting late and the race had to get started and the yellow laps helped dry the track.

Nascar, huh?

Well, that's all well and good, but I thought that I'd mention that the first US Grand Prix motorcycle race run in the US in 11 years (at Laguna Seca) had two Americans on the Podium!

Yesterday, Nicky Hayden of Owensboro, Kentucky, took the pole for the very first time in qualifying, and not only was this his first MotoGP win, he led every lap of the race today. Colin Edwards, the "Texas Tornado," took second place, and Valentino Rossi took third place.

For those of you who don't know, MotoGP is the top tier international racing event. These guys are the best riders in the world.

Colin Edwards leads Valentino Rossi (3rd place today), who is arguably the world's best motorcycle road racer today. The color scheme is the mid-1980s Yamaha "bumblebee" colors, when Kenny Roberts ruled the world for Yamaha, and in honor of their 50th aniversary.

Hey Norm.

Ok, last week was the starting green/yellow flag.

Then yesterday, it was mandatory yellow at 25 laps?

That was the only one, right? Mandatory yellow? Where did this come from? Has this happened before in Nascar?
