Yes, May 25. It was scheduled for the 26th, but was moved up one day.

Remember he was on "standby" in case an opening opened up.

The caffine must have kicked in because I went looking for this statement on the web site too. I did find this on DU:

9. sfexpat2000, where do I find the link for donations? Thanks.

We all know there are a lot of expenses during recovery.

Would it make sense to put a link on the Andythanksyou site?

sfexpat2000 Wed Jul-06-05 05:02 AM

10. I have not asked for permission to continue to raise funds. And, yes, there will be a link up very soon. Thank you for asking.

Beth

Now my first thought was..."Lousy FReeper Troll!" But I do notice that the info is being put out that the RRO still needs money. I'm not sure if Beth is talking to herself here, but she is getting her message across.

Doesn't Termite have a job so he can cover living expenses?

Johns Hopkins has verified that Andy Stephenson is in surgery right now.

I just got off the telephone with the Johns Hopkins Hospital office of corporate communications. They confirmed to me that Andy Stephenson is "in surgery as we speak" at Johns Hopkins Hospital. They also confirmed that the surgery was originally scheduled for tomorrow, but it was changed to today.

Now that Johns Hopkins has verified directly to me that Andy is in fact a patient at their facility, we consider the issue of his alleged fraud to be resolved and closed from further discussion on Democratic Underground. We understand why some members may have had questions or concerns about this issue in the past when the facts were not known. There is a huge difference between the malicious trolls who outright lied (and were since banned), and legitimate DU members who had honest questions. The fact that I have verified that Andy is indeed in surgery does not give anyone license to ostracize or attack DU members who held a differing opinion in the past. We hope that now we can put this conflict behind us and move toward healing for this community.

We wish Andy Stephenson good luck in his surgery. He has had a very tough time these last few months, and hopefully now he can begin the road to recovery. We are anxious to hear any updates that people have about his condition. If anyone does have any news, please feel free to post about it on Democratic Underground.

Mental Ben reports:

Johns Hopkins Professor of Surgery and Oncology Dr. Charles Yeo released the following statement to Seattle Weekly Political Editor George Howland Jr. about Andy Stephenson. . . .

Where's the proof? VERIFIED PAPER DIAGNOSES!

Still doesn't answer the question about a diagnosis for pancreatic cancer before April 28. Nor does it settle what, to my mind, are the other issues either.

Four main issues in the Andy Stephenson Situation:
1. Pre-appeal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer
2. Financial need
3. Need for the surgery to be done at JHH
4. Accounting of all funds raised and spent

Four red flags in the Andy Stephenson Situation:
1. Andy's history (his checkered past, his financial assets, his wealthy pals, etc.)
2. The many inconsistencies in the ever-changing story
3. The belligerent behavior of UndieCo's spokesgoons, the Andyliners
4. The dubious nature of the "proof" that has been offered so far

Even if his story does end up checking out as true, all these factors still would validate our questioning. Furthermore, this type of questioning simply gives the DUmmies--and Undie the Fundee in particular--a taste of their own medicine. They are the Champions of Verifiability, of Honest and Open Transparency. Hypocrisy, thy name is DUmmie!

"Politicize my plight!" Undie cried. And so we have. If they are not crooked, they are at least incompetent, and thus in no position to lecture us about accountability.

It is indeed tragic that Andy passed up perfectly fine, world-class health care early on in the state of Washington, for next to nothing, in order to go for the fancier, fundraised--but therefore much delayed--treatment at JHH. Universal health care is good for the peons, but not for our Andy, apparently.

Having said all that, we all here continue to wish Andy nothing but the best as far as his physical health is concerned.

Two problems with this post by bennie. One that Frank pointed out. Why is the reporter leaking this to bennie without updating this on the web site of the Seattle Weekly first?

Two: Bennie posted his new info in the wee hours of the morning. He surely didn't just get the info this morning. If he got the info yesterday, why didn't he run right over to Scamdy.com or Misty's and post his proof?

I must be missing something.

I didn't think benburch was savvy enough to do this, but he must understand the concept of "trial balloon" -- he'll get DUmmie "buy-in" to his new facts, then, when he posts them as "proof" and gets challenged, the DUmmies will rally to his rescue because they've seen the "evidence" already.

I don't see a date given on the Seattle Weekly site, unless they've edited the article. It says "end of May."

Old online article says "end of May," sir.

Apparently a new online article with revisions, but I haven't seen it myself yet.

The quote of "May 26" is in the hardcopy, the street copy, the actually newspaper, itself, and we're getting a scan of that.

You must be right. I see no other explanation for posting this important information at 2:55 a.m. (I believe that is the East Coast time)

It almost seems as if bennie tried to "sneak" it in.

Apparently, (I have not seen it) that original article also said he was originally scheduled for May 12, and not May 10. Very basic errors of fact that betray the claim to "journalism."

His current diagnosis and treatment are unclear as the doctors struggle to figure out how best to help him.

This statement is still one of the most baffling to me. Virginia Mason is a top notch cancer medical facility. Why is the dx unclear? I thought the whole point of the article was to dispel the cries of the unconvinced.

Why is the treatment unclear? I thought he had already started chemo or radiation?

Johns Hopkins professor of surgery Dr. Charles Yeo says he performed a Whipple procedure - sometimes called the "Olympics" of surgery because of its duration and difficulty - for treatment of Stephenson's pancreatic cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital on Thursday, May 26. The surgeon removed a "golfball-sized" tumor from Stephenson's pancreas, ACCORDING TO JOHNSON.

Remember that Johnson is the nurse practitioner in Seattle.

Two things:

1. This so called statement from Dr. Yeo is actually only from Ms. Johnson.
2. I thought I read on DU, a very loud exclamation that Dr. Yeo was NOT Andy's doctor. (anyone else remember this or have a link?)

I thought he was too sick from an infection to start treatment?

That may be. Thought I recalled bennie, in one of his arguments at the Malloy site, saying that Andy had started chemo. I must be mixing up reality and fantasy again :)

"10. I have not asked for permission to continue to raise funds. And, yes, there will be a link up very soon. Thank you for asking"

Wait a minute. She has not asked permission but a link will be up very soon? And they wonder why we just don't believe anything they say.
