FReepers go to the Races! (The Air Races That IS!)
Reno Air Race Association ^ | 30 June 2005 | hattend

It's that time of the year again, start making plans, get your vacation plans in order. Get your hotel reservations NOW!!! (they're going quick)

Are any other FReepers going?

Dashing Dasher is a FReeper Racer (#4, Biplane Class)!!!

My wife and I are Rare Bear Fan Sponsors and we can't wait to see the Bear defend it's title this year.

Forty years is way too long to go between fixes.

Reno 2006 is far enough away to start planning now.

If we have enough FReepers attending - we should have a gala - dinner/lunch/something.

I just can't stay out too late - if I'm racing the next day.
(10pm I turn into a pumpkin!)

Let's get a headcount!?

I'm in. I'll be at the Rare Bear BBQ on Friday but any other day should be fine.

I went years ago. White Lighteneing flew, the Pond Racer stayed on the ground where it was better off, Strega won gold.

I was thinking of taking my 5 year old this year (gotta keep that interst up), but it'll need to be a day trip. We are in the Bay Area, anybody here do a fly in for the day before? Tie downs available? Ground transportation?

We're getting there Wednesday afternoon and staying until Monday morning.

Staying at the Silver Legacy.

See you at the BBQ...I'll be bugging you for a program autograph in the pits, too. :-)

Hey thchronic, any good brew pubs in town? I've only explored the Brews Bros Pub in the SL complex.

You can no longer fly into Stead during race week.

Fly to either Reno International, Tahoe/Truckee or South Tahoe. Reno Int'l used to have a shuttle to Stead. The other two airports - you'd need to rent a car.

In 99, I flew into Reno Int'l and took the shuttle back and forth. I believe one of the FBOs ran it. Call them and ask what their policy is this year. Mercury? or Sierra? Don't remember. I fly into Stead now. ;-)

Here's one I found funny. Astronauts Gus Grissom and John Young were watching a test of the new Gemini spacecraft ejection seats. Things were going good until the ejected. Problem was, the hatches stayed put and the the seat went right through them. Asked about what he thought about the failure, Young said, "that would really be a headache, but a short one".

Brew Brothers is great for it's central location. However, there's a place a little out of downtown called Brew House Pub & Grill on Kietzke Lane & McCarran Blvd. We hold our Nevada Independent Conservative PAC (link) meetings there, as they have private rooms that would be great for a small to mid-sized gathering. Plus plenty of beer on tap, full bar & decent food.

I guess we can wait 'till we get a good FReeper headcount and figure it out then. I'm here for whatever help you need... it sounds great! I would love to meet some other FReepers.

Could you send that PM to me again? I deleted it by accident.

Need to put my glasses on, I was trying to respond. :-)
