There are very few P-38s still airworthy at this time but there is usually one at the static display area. The last one to race regularly was "White Lightning" but it was damaged in a crash landing a few years back and is currently under repair.
There are P-51's galore! Like ten of them racing. There are two gold (top) class P-51 racers, Strega and Voodoo. The world's fastest P-51, Dago Red, retired after last year's race but I wouldn't be surprised to see it back one of these years.
Don't just wish you could be there...BE THERE!!! If not this year, start planning for next year. 3rd weekend of September.

"When one engine fails on a twin-engine airplane you always have enough power left to get you to the scene of the crash."
"Without ammunition, the USAF would be just another expensive flying club."
"What is the similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots? If a pilot screws up, the pilot dies; If ATC screws up, .... the pilot dies."

"Weather forecasts are horoscopes with numbers."
"Progress in airline flying: now a flight attendant can get a pilot pregnant."
"Airspeed, altitude and brains. Two are always needed to successfully complete the flight."

I can't wait! The DackWacker!
The best part about being a Biplane Racer is that we're done by 10am everyday - which gives us time for a nap before noon!
A-81 - See you there! I'll bring my Sharpee!

My favorite Reno related quotes.....
Both by the genius, Art Vance.
Racing at Reno...
"You're a success at Reno, if number one...you don't kill anybody; number two, you don't kill yourself; number three, you don't hurt yourself; and number four, you don't bend up the airplane."
Flying the Sea Fury "Furias"...
"Flying Furias is kind of like doing your girlfriend on the hood of your wife's car at the drive-in while your wife honks the horn. Very exciting, but not too fun."

As you taxi by on your way back to the pit area, look for the whiteboard with "If you need lube, you've got the wrong dude - Go #4!!"
That's our box
LOL!!

My mother will be so proud. Well, I'll make sure you're the only one who can see it...good thing you all are strung out taxiing back in.
;-)
I figured more FReepers were airheads. Perhaps I started this thread too early but hotels and RV spots are going fast.

Wish I could go. Attended once back in the early 60's and that awesome ground-shaking sound is still imbedded in my memory.
Good luck
