I got a satellite dish TV receiver a few years ago.
One of the things I wonder about is whether the company can tell what I am watching. It's no big deal to me if they can (not unless you condider the Amimal Planet Channel or Fox News to be pornopgrahic, which I suppose some might).
It does not seem possible that they can know. But there are some features about it that make me wonder.
In some ways, I hope they can tell.
Why would they care?
Yes, they (the company)can tell. Why?
> Yes, they (the company)can tell. Why?
Advertising and programming, I would think.
Considering all the arm twisting that goes on between these folks and the Neilsen folks over this type of info, I guess they either can't, or don't.
Though I do know TiVo can and does.
Yes, they do keep track of what you watch. It's basically for viewing stats that are now much more accurate than the days of the Nielsen boxes.
Just curious ... why are you worried about it?
Probably something that is available from your provider...
You are better off staying home & being watched than getting another dui or breaking your neck running through a sprinkler.
They also know about that stuff in your basement ...
> They also know about that stuff in your basement ...
The stuff in the basement is soon going into a new shed in the backyard.
That's if I can get away with driving a mile or two.
There are too many flammables in the basement. It's just a matter of time before it blows up.
I am the guy that installed it for you. Yes. We know everything you have been watching.
I don't know if they can tell or not (there may be privacy laws which protect consumers from spying - I have no idea), but even if they did know what your television was tuned into, how would they know it was you? Anybody in your house, resident or guest, could tune into anything they wanted. I guess the satellite company could track viewing patterns to see what was watched the most.
Somebody needs to invent the Anonymizer for satellite dishes.
