Tom Cruise says he believes in aliens

Hollywood actor Tom Cruise not only battles creatures from outer space in his latest film "War of the Worlds," he also believes aliens really exist, he told a German newspaper on Wednesday.

Asked in an interview with the tabloid daily Bild if he believed in aliens, Cruise said: "Yes, of course. Are you really so arrogant as to believe we are alone in this universe?"

"Millions of stars, and we're supposed to be the only living creatures? No, there are many things out there, we just don't know," Cruise, 42, said in the interview published in German.

Cruise's film "War of the Worlds" is based on British writer H.G. Wells' 1898 story of the invasion of Earth by Martians.

I really liked his acting skills but now he is another loud arrogant a--hole who I won't be able to watch in anything any more. I guess he hasn't been told he doesn't need to act like a jerk when attempting to communicate with people.

I think it is relevant, when many think there are religious absolute truths.

I am not hostile to religions, just some religious people.

"Why can't the unique quality of our planet/solar system be that it spawned and supports life?"

That's philosophy, and I understand what you mean. But, all things being equal in terms of chemical reactions, gravity, material properties, energy exchange, and a whole host of other factors, I see it as quite possible that there are numerous races of creatures out there in the void. Of course, I recognize that is also philosophy! ;)

I hope War of the Worlds is only slightly less successful than Travolta's Battlefield Earth.

If you want a good laugh, go to Amazon.com and read some of the reviews of "Battlefield Earth".

A euphemism for as Carl Sagan noted "Billions and Billions.

Not according to Carl. In the opening pages of his final book, he claims, "I never said it".

He has to believe in aliens, as a Scientologist. Little wonder this movie is so dear to him.

Xenu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

In Scientology doctrine, Xenu is a galactic ruler who, 75 million years ago, brought billions of people to Earth, stacked them around volcanoes, and blew them up with hydrogen bombs. Their souls then clustered together and stuck to the bodies of the living, and continue to cause people problems today. These events are known to Scientologists as "Incident II," and the traumatic memories associated with them as The Wall of Fire or the R6 implant.

L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Scientology, detailed the story in Operating Thetan level III (OT III) in 1967, famously warning that R6 was "calculated to kill (by pneumonia etc) anyone who attempts to solve it." The Xenu story was the start of the use of the volcano as a common symbol of Scientology and Dianetics from 1968 to the present day. Much controversy between supporters and critics of the Church of Scientology has focused on the story of Xenu. The Church has tried to keep Xenu confidential; critics claim revealing the story is in the public interest, given the high prices charged for OT III. The Church avoids making mention of Xenu in public statements and has gone to considerable effort to maintain the story's confidentiality, including legal action on the grounds of both copyright and trade secrecy. Despite this, much material on Xenu has leaked to the public.

Hubbard later dramatised the Xenu story as a film script, Revolt in the Stars.

Was he this weird in his younger years too? I don't follow pop culture much; I see no redeeming value in it. All the same, he's become rather creepy.

We have to remember where to place the real responsibility for the success or failure of this movie -- on the director.

Two words: "A.I."

He has to be doing this on purpose. Sweet Jesus, nobody can be this foolish to destroy a multi-mill career unwittingly. Gee Tom, horrible reviews for WOW along with your lunatic behavior...Call up Steve and ask him if he wants to make another movie. May I suggest "Hi, my name is Tom Cruise, welcome to McDonalds."

I saw it today ... yes,, your right, at least this is a movie that is worth going to see.
The tripods ( the martian machines ) were cool to see.
But, there were a few moments in the movie that dragged on and on... wished they showed more scenes of the martians.
At the very end of the movie, they showed a tree branch, and a drop of water and the narrator talks about how bacteria is what killed the martians, and how we ( us humans ) managed to survive on earth with bacteria, and how ( yes, they give credit to GOD ) GOD in his infinite wisdom put bacteria here on earth.

Thanks much, WCF.

God's best to you this summer.

Don't know if this is worth a group ping, or not, Dave.

He will eventually have to see the truth of Christianity. One could pray that it's when he can still make a choice about it.

Hmmmmm.

So, a puppet master stooge writes this sort of review about this sort of film.

Might cause some of us to wonder about THEIR motives AND PLANS vis a vis ET's etc.
