Ak Winger. Never could decide what I liked least about Winger, that he was so derivative, or that he was so lame as to chose Bon Jovi as someone to rip off.

It's a toss up between ELP in Boston Garden, 1975, and Kiss in Providence in 1977. Both were great shows, and I can remember at least part of them.

The Ed Sullivan Show 1964. It was TV but I can remember sitting in the dorm lounge. Every TV on campus was tuned to the Beatles. Beer flowed and singing echoed through the halls "Can't Buy Me Love!"

We coots were cool! We wore our thongs and sang our songs!

Sorry for the typo!!

All back in the late '60s or early '70s:

Jimi Hendrix - Boston, MA - About 3 months before he died. Great seats near the stage. My ears are still ringing from that one, although he only played for about half an hour.

Jefferson Airplane - Cambridge, MA - The air was thick with the smoke of burning herbs, no need to roll yer own, just inhale! This was back in the days when a radical hippie chick would jump up on stage after the concert, rallying everyone to trash Harvard Square!

Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Boston, MA - Back when they were considered hot stuff.

Simon and Garfunkel - Forest Hills, NY - OK, not rock, but hey!

the concert was enjoyable, despite how i look at them now. he had more hits than his old boss, Alice Cooper, though.

Conservative ex-Deadhead and Phish phan here...

Saw the Dead about 20 times from the early 80's thru the 90's.

However, my most memorable two shows are... Johnny Winter.. 1976 or so. After 2 full sets with his band which included Rick Derringer and other notables, about 1/3 of the crowd left after his last encore. Then the lights went down again and Johnny came back out and said, "I feel like jamming a while, if y'all wanna stick around" sat down and played some blistering solo blues guitar till 2 am. Awesome!

Blue Oyster Cult - Saw them first in 1973 for a can of food.. it was a benefit show. Had no idea who they were except a friend told me they were like Black Sabbath but with synthesizers.. That was enough for me, and the price was right. They proceeded to rock my 14 year old ass clean off. I loved that band for many years. They did this guitar orchestra thing where all 5 of them would pick up guitars and stand at the edge of the stage in a line and wail away.. I was never the same after :)

Mr G and I are used to working at concerts, so often we don't even listen to the radio. However, there are 2 grand exceptions.
1) Al Jereau at a really really bad sounding place in Chicago. He was so magical we were able to forget the sound of the place and get lost in the music.

2) Pink Floyd, about 12(?) years ago, when they came to Nashville and played in a stadium. We bought about a dozen tickets, and took our kids and their friends. We told them they were about to hear and see some really great rock and roll. It was a fabulous show.

Alice had 14 top 40 songs in his career. And still puts on killer shows.

But when push comes to shove the key to a good show is effort. Any band that really works on stage, regardless of their general music quality, will put on a good show, maybe not a great show but at least good.

The Grass Roots at Ft. Sill in 1967. Don't know if they were paid for it (the troops weren't charged anything), but I don't think many rock groups were entertaining the military back then.
