Your Best Memories of a Rock Concert (vanity)
Few Remaining Brain Cells | 6/28/05 | Pissant

Posted on 06/28/2005 3:16:46 PM PDT by pissant

Many Freepers grew up in what they considered to be the golden age of Rock concerts. Of course, it may have had more to do with the fact that we were young and fanatical about the music in our youth. These days, ‘ol Pissant prefers the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Military Band music and Jazz, but I have some very fond memories of the craziness of my Rock concert yesteryears. I’m quite sure many of you have some concert stories that rival and surpass mine. So this thread is the place to share!

Following are 2 concert experiences that left a permanent scar on me! ;o)

Pigpen kept the band rooted in the blues to a large degree. But I think their most impressive concerts were in the late 1970s.

I like that Ian explores different styles, though they don't always work commercially (read mid 80s), or his mid 90s foray into eastern sounds(which i love)... I'd read that Tull was the inspiration for Spinal Tap back around the Broadsword album... about the only truth between reality and the movie was that all the drummers WERE blowing up...

there's nothing wrong with getting old as long as you're not at a concert pointing up to someone in the audience and shouting, "Dude!"

It isn't a 'rock' concert, but it was the best I can remember....

The Gypsy Kings,
Orlando, Florida
February 2001 (I think)

What made it so great is seemed just about the entire audience was versed in Gitano or Flamenco....so by the end of the concert, EVERYONE was dancing! Moms, Dads, kids, grannies etc.

It wasn't for wallflowers

Good list. I have seen both Bo Diddley and John Lee Hooker. Well past their primes but amazing nonetheless! :)

The last ZZ Top concert I went to, looked like a geriatric convention of bikers. I was possibly one of the younger in attendance and I'm 49.

Najida. I saw the Gypsy Kings 3 years ago on the Seattle Waterfront Pier. Absolutely floored. I love them!

1972 Indianapolis Grateful Dead 3hrs 5 songs, all you had to do was inhale to get high.

summer 1972 Evansville blues fest Bosse field, Howling Wolf bummed a beer from me and thanked from the stage later, Ike & Tina revue were awesome.

last summer Bloomington IN, Leon Russell in a little place that held 200 people we stood on the dance floor, half dozen Jerry Garcia look-a-likes, played for 2 hours
