Why not mix a couple of different varieties? There is "niobe", which is deep red, and blooms most of the summer from June to August, and also "henryi", which is white with dark centers, and blooms most of the summer and into fall. I like Jackmanii also, because of the rich color, but it does finish blooming quite early in comparison.
I hope the stairs keep me in shape...lol. No bad knees yet. He wanted the old Victorian and it's his retirement and all I want to do is make him happy. I have grown to love the old painted lady too.
I need to push away from this computer to get the donations to the AmVets readys for tomorrow.
I hope we have a live thread tonight for President Bush's speech.
always, I love that deep red color! Excellent...
I haven't gotten a Wayside catalog in awhile...will go to the website, and check....
Many, many thanks!!
Afternoon..
You going to watch the speech tonite?
I'm going to email the agent and reschedule the appointment. I think I'll watch the speech...if I'm awake....:-)
The location will be great!
I can't remember WHERE you live Molly. The reason I mention it is because I wouldn't even consider trying to move a garden in this weather with any hopes of saving the things I'd move.
Also, I think Jackmanni will get too tall for your needs as well. Mine is well over 6 ft and bushy.
If you're looking for a long blooming pink one, I'd suggest Comtessa De Brochard. I've just bought my second one this year. It preforms longer than any other Clemmie I've seen.
If you're adventurous, why not try two on the same pole.
Mr. President is a nice purple, which blooms larger than Jackmanni, but not nearly as tall. Mr. P blooms quite early and would be done blooming before Henryi (white) or Comtessa De Brochard or Nellie Mosher (Comtessa is smaller bloom,, maybe 3 inches diamter, Nellie is a little larger, probably 5 or 6 inches in diameter) which are both pink and bloom at about the same time.
Thanks for the ping to the Shelby Foote passing thread...I need to get his books.
The only thing I want to move right now is that small boulder....my poor husband!
Then I'll prepare the ground & plant the clematis when recommended...fall...spring...whatever...
your suggestion is good.
I just ordered the Wayside catalog.
Rain may be coming!!!
He was a fine writer. Also Bruce Catton. My husband is rereading one of his books about the War Between the STates.:-)).
Ha. Ha. Ha. I misread your first post and thought you said you were going to ask your husband to move a small border
And I was thinking how fortunate you are to be able to entrust your borders to your husband.
Boulders, YES. Borders, No.
Down the hill from us, there's a couple: always out in their garden, digging, moving, trimming, deadheading....
That's NOT us! Well, we share other interests, after all....
It's raining Molly!! Heavy rain, thunderstorms... and I found the "key"... my van was packed & ready to go to the beach!!!
Well I certainly glad we got that little misunderstanding straightened out.
HA! Yes, I watered the flowers at church, too. RAIN!!
Hugh is ripping Kerry..
Sadie has been shaking her head since I got home...I think one of her ears is bothering her again... I just tried to rinse the ears....she got away from me and is under the bed...with the muzzle on ....and I can hear her whining....she wants the muzzle off.
Kerry is in full fever...mentions the Downing Street memo....:-)
Poor Sadie.
