He "says" he's retiring, but his license to practice medicine is good is MS. He plans to do volunteer work.

I love big storms... can't wait to be in the midst of 'em.

Are you on a dial-up connection or will the other connection go out too during storms?

We're on DSL; don't know what happened because even when I got back on things weren't quite "right" for a while. Very slow, etc.

Your fence sounds so different; wish we could see it!

DSL, yes, that's it. So DSL goes down too? Hmmmmm. No way around the storms, so I'll just enjoy 'em.

Yes, the fence is original from 1883 -- made of some hard wood that has withstood the years. Quite intricate, but I've seen new fencing that has similar designs in case ours rots.

We've never lost DSL because of a storm so I'm just assuming the phone lines got hit or something. Our phone was knocked out for a while but even when that got working, the DSL didn't right away.

That ias one OLD fence, and the craftsmanship in those days was just lovely. I love going to Charleston to see the gardens and wrought iron railings which are quite intricate, although a lot of them are replacements as many people offered their fences to be melted down into bullets during the war.

Hi! I am interested to hear what all you are doing with your house.

I am back from the pool. We stayed an hour and a half, and then thunder started so they closed the pool. Of course, we have had no rain, just thunder!

Stopped by McD's for a Happy Meal for granddaughter and iced tea for me.

Now I am back at my son's home. I got the pots watered this morning when we stopped by my house so I could get into my bathing suit. So, once I get the last of the laundry done here I will have accomplished everything I need to today. Granddaughter goes down for her nap in just a few minutes.

Charleston was our choice, until the home prices SOARED. I love those houses in the historic district! The magazine "Arts and Antiques" feature the historic homes for sale on the last two pages of each issue. When we started looking 5 years ago, Charleston was our choice, but 2 years later, Charleston was out of our pocketbook's range.

Hi Miss Marple. Have you posted the pics of your flower beds and garden? I was just about to track your posts!

I have a digital camera and once I'm (we're) settled, I'm going to take pics of the house and the beautiful English gardens and post 'em here. Having lived my life in sunny, but "dry" Southern CA, it's still stunning to me to see the greenery that requires no additional watering! Flowers bloom out of seemingly nowhere! Crepe Myrtle's are fast becoming my favorite, but our yard has only two of 'em. The neighbor on the corner said that his are bright red because he fertilizes. Mine are a pretty, but sort of a dull pink. I will fertilize mine in the fall.

I love crepe myrtles. I live too far North to grow them.

As to your new home. Are you going to have to spend 6 months scouring antique stores for stuff to fill it?

It sounds like you're giving away most everything you had, I can't imagine you'll be putting new stuff in that house.

Or will it be new reproductions?

We came darned close to moving to Charleston but we're glad now we didn't because we love our town.

Charleston and DC are our favorites cities.

Hi IG! No, we have all the furniture we need and then some. We had new furniture and Persian rugs shipped directly to the house last October. We are moving the antique furniture which only consists of a couple of armoires, a desk and chair, and several unusual little tables, a curio cabinet, some book cases and picture frames. The new furniture is of really good quality and it fits the house.

I didn't move the appliances...lol... bought new refridgerator, washer & dryer and tossed out everything in the kitchen save for my mother's Apple dishes and my grandmother's Havilland (spell) china.

It was all of his books that had me bogged down and all of the stuff we'd accumulated over the years. Sorting thru our "treasures" was the worst of it. The American Veterans have made out quite well, and I know this for a fact, because they are coming here again tomorrow on one day's notice...lol.

Just today, I came across my Christman ornament that was given to me for my first Christmas! I have found ALL of my childhood possessions and all of his too, plus some coins I thought I'd hocked or had stolen from me years ago. Like Howlin tells me, I will soon find Jimmy Hoffa's body. LOL!

LOL!

I just thought of the peeeeeerrrrrrfect weekend job for my dear husband:

Move the small boulder which is now at the base of the lampost by the driveway, so I can plant a Clematis there instead!!

Now a question: I was looking at a white-flowered variety that blooms in the fall....OR should I go for a June-flowering one like the common Jackmani (sp?). I like those colors...the colors I do NOT like are orange & some golds...

Any suggestions??

No, I haven't posted anything yet. I remembered that I should ping you when I do, and I won't forget.

Your home sounds lovely. I used to want an old Victorian home (there are plenty in Indianapolis) but Mr. Marple was pulling for an attached garage and central air when we moved here.

Now that I have bad knees, I am grateful I don't have to climb stairs too much. Sometimes we get what we need, even though we are initially disappointed. LOL!

If you are considering sweet autumn clematis, I think it gets too big (assuming you have the average size lamppost).

Wayside Gardens has an excellent selection of clematis, and they also have an explanation of the different types and how and when to prune them.
