SAN JOSE, Calif. - In yet another dog attack in the Bay Area, the owner of a pit bull mix was treated Sunday for wounds on her hands and arms Sunday after she was bitten by her 8-month-old pet in her San Jose home.
The unidentified 36-year-old woman told paramedics that the dog bit her repeatedly after it was sick in the house and she tried to clean up after the animal.
"She was attacked for no apparent reason," said animal control officer Ramon Dizon.
The woman's husband was also bitten when he tried to stop the dog, but his injuries were less serious, police said.
The brown-and-white dog, named Jake, was picked up by the city's Animal Care and Services Department, said San Jose police Sgt. Nick Muyo. The woman told officers she no longer wanted the dog.
The attack is the latest in a flurry of pit bull attacks.
Nicholas Faibish, 12, was killed in his San Francisco home earlier this month when he was mauled by one or both of his family's pit bulls. His mother has been charged with child endangerment.
Annette Rojas, 8, was released from a local hospital Friday after a pit bull charged her in the backyard of her Santa Rosa home and grabbed her face in its jaws.
I guess the pit bull in him won out over the rest of the mix.
The breed should simply be banned.
No good deed...
why should a pittbull be punished. and put down for an attack . dont get me wrong when a child dies from a pittbull attack it is sad, but the owner should be held responsible for the attack on who ever. for one reason the owner knows hes/her dog better than anyone and should be held responible for the dogs actions. reason two we have a grey hound rescue so why cant we have a pitt bull rescue even if the dog has attacked before? dont punish the dog punish the owner
I hear you, but the problem is that it happens much too often. We have laws against keeping wolves, for example, and I assume you have no problem with those. Of course, a pit bull is not as dangerous as a wolf, but it's just a question of where you draw the line.
There are a lot of other dog breeds that don't have these problems. Content yourself with one of those.
Personally, I'm partial to my Lab.
"Poor, misunderstood puppy dog"
Poor and misunderstood with a high "prey drive."
i hear what you are saying on too many attacks by pittbulls, one soultion would be all pittbull owners are required to insurance on the dog if it attacks. i have had owned pittbulls before and not one time did they even attacked another animal or persons. everyone seems to forget all breeds of dogs. does became more aggressive when they are by homes they become more aggressive even the friendliest or scarriest dog does come more aggressive when someone is by their home
i wonder how many people would be condeming the dog if it would have been a poodle that attacked its owner or a child. most everyone would not care but since it is a pittbull just about everyone says they are bad dogs and should be put to sleep or banned from owning. there is more attacks on owners and children from other breeds. just because they are pitts the attacks are put in the news more. dont punish a dog for being a dog, there are no bad dogs just bad owners
