6-Month-Old Baby Dies In Hot Truck

MAYPEARL, Texas -- A 6-month-old baby girl has died in North Texas after her parents left her in the family's hot pickup truck outside their church, police said.

The incident happened Thursday outside the Ranch House Cowboy Church on the outskirts of the tiny town of Maypearl, about 36 miles southwest of Dallas.

Maypearl Police Chief Nathan Bickerstaff says Mika Michele Terry was left in the truck for about four hours before she was discovered unconscious.

The child's father told Bickerstaff he was supposed to have dropped Mika off at a day-care center but forgot. He says he went to the church to do some construction work.

It's unclear who found the child, but Bickerstaff says he arrived at the church early Thursday afternoon to find the father holding her body inside the sanctuary. Bickerstaff's efforts at CPR failed.

The child died a short time later at Baylor Medical Center at Waxahachie. An autopsy has been ordered and Child Protective Services and Ellis County authorities are investigating.

No the child died because dad is a moron or dad in a murderer.

The dad could very well be a moron. I don't know him. But it's possible his mind was focused on the work day ahead and the child was sleeping peacefully in the back seat and he forgot.

Back in the days before it was illegal to put your child in the front seat the chances of forgetting your child was in the vehicle was remote.

Of course there was always the chance that the child could be killed by the airbag in the event of a collision.

Yet another pillar of Liberalism designed to protect us from ourselves.

What I can't figure out is why this story was moved to chat where fewer people will see it. I thought it was a great reminder to parents to pay attention.

I have a baby, a pick-up and even live in the heat of Texas. I know where he is every single second. My wife knows where he is every second and we NEVER FORGET that we have a Baby.

And almost every day at work, the gym, pool or park someone will ask me how Nick is doing. At that point a bell should go off!

I guess they think local news is just chat.

Then the story about the 3 missing little boys that turned up in the trunk of a car should be chat.

Or the little boy scout that was found in Utah.

How about the idiot that ran her car into a day care center?

Somehow, none of those stories were moved to chat and they were just local news.

I agree, I agree! I myself wouldn't have come across this had I not caught it before it was moved.

I just can't comprehend how people can let this happen. I have a 7-month old grandson, and when he is with me, he is within view every moment. I could never "forget" that he was with me...

YES! I remember that episode. Creepy stuff. I don't really understand how you can "forget" your child. Once I did hear a story that I believed, the dad left the kid in the car all day, but he NEVER took the kid to daycare, just this one day he had to. That's the only story like this that I've found credible.

Yeah, right.

God's fault.

He gets the blame for everything.

Well technically speaking, if He's responsible for everything, He should be blamed for everything... but I'm not going to go there. :^)

False assumptions lead to false conclusions.

Do you blame God for all of man's sin?

People won't leave a $5 bill on the passenger seat of their car for 5 seconds, let leave a child alone for hours.

I won't even leave my smokes in plain view. There have been a couple of incidents where I could see this happening, but he was in a truck!

This is unforgivable. I don't care what excuse the parent makes up. There is no excuse. PUNISH SEVERELY. I can't believe how many stories of the innocent are killed in this manner each year.
