Yep; that's right. Others' carnage was worse than yours. My advice, take the points and RUN, don't walk to Daytona.

Not only that, he's a great driver. I fully agree with your assessment. The DEI shop is a dysfunctional concoction of family and friend of the old man's loyalty. Things need to shake out. They need to get over being in the spotlight and kick butt and take names. Who's gonna do it, DEI??

Y'all need to consider yourselves a RACE team if you're gonna survive. Y'all got the cash in the bank to retire now... if that's your goal, do it. If not, get off top dead center and build some winning cars, give some spankins, and do your jobs. To the front! Get er done!

I've noticed that before. Really thought I was sunk last week and only lost one position.

Somebody gonna have to 'splain that to me.

Another thing I was very impressed with about Kenny after watching Nascar 360 last year was his devotion to his wife and kids. He always took the time to say how much he loved them and how great they were. It looks like they all usually go to the races together.

The boy (turns 11 yrs old on July 4th!) and I love Kenny Wallace.

He is known as "Crazy Kenny" here.

I saw that 360 episode, obvious as heck that "Herm" is the real deal.....family...family...family. The boy has his head screwed on right, he has a ton of fun doing what he does.

I am always pulling for KW when watching a Busch race.

Oh, I'll take it. My team did very well in qualifying and we still lost a team position before the green flag today.

I pretty much figured God hated me.

To actually move up after all my drivers blowed up their transmissions or went dirt racing is nothing short of miracle. (video of the Lady of the Lake--King Arthur stuff, etc.)

Amen. At first, it was the crew, him, Michel Jourdain, maybe a fan or two, and me (all standing silently at the edge of the cover they had over the area) watching 360 on his warwagon, and he was just being a great guy. He didn't change a whit when more people popped in until they went to commercial, when he went into autograph/picture mode. He gained a ton of respect from me last night.

I should've said that just the fans were at the edge; the principals were in the tent. Kenny probably knew we were there (he's got that 6th-sense).

The sad part about today was Jr's statement to a throng of reporters.

"I wish I had a good transmission, I'm sick of it"

Of course this has fueled the rumors again, even ESPN broke into their coverage to say Jr is going to RCR. I'm guessing this was based on the interview from the Orlando Sentinel that I posted up thread somewhere and not on fact. However, I think he IS sick of it and if the equipment is not fixed this rumor will become true sooner rather than later.

WCG, let's talk about transmissions, ok?

Seems that you posted earlier that you had direct involvement with this stuff.....?

Big stink, now, about the tranny's......read the latest on Nascar.com?

Hendrick MS is whinning, big time. They used "Mid Valley Engineering" tranny's.....

""The internal parts in the transmissions were fine," Loomis said. "We tested these transmissions at (Virginia International Raceway) and used them at Pocono without a problem. "But every problem we had today was with the linkages and that shouldn't happen -- these things should be worked out by now." Gordon expressed a desire to return to the old transmissions."

My question to you is this, is the tranny builder also responsible for the linkage to the shifter?

I would think that would be an in-house thing, very curious.

They (DW) made reference to the tranny issue during the race, said now that there are many varations on the original - forget name he mentioned.

Obvious that it was linkage related, not internal.

Took me forever to find out what Dale Jr meant by, "I like'd the old one better!" - the tranny.

Who made the call to change #8's tranny - and why?

Not a bad race - three 48 year old drivers in 1-2-3 at one point.

And one 48 year old fan just a giggling!

Glad to see DJ get some payback on "Smiley" (my boy's name for the back flipping dude) and also to give JJ a lesson on how you pass someone.

JJ said on the radio, "DJ is done!"

More giggling. DJ said about a month ago, "I'm not taking anymore of this...."

If it's equipment he wants, dunno if RCR is much better. They do last from week to week, but they don't have near enough speed. If one could take DEI/Hendrick plate cars (take your pick, but don't take anything below the second team from either camp), Roush cookie-cutter cars (but not for 500-mile races; they build 450-mile engines) and Gibbs road cars (look at how well Texas Terry did with the 3rd-rate Gibbs team, and up until Bobby did his off-road impersonation, he had a good machine), you'd have the team to beat.

MAN WITH THE CIGARETTE: Junior, you have to create a lousy year to spring this.

JR: Man, I've got no respect from the crew, I've got lousy setups, hell, I can't get anything done on the track.

MAN WITH THE CIGARETTE: The balloon has been floated, and the RCR team is your future.

JR: I'm booked to 07 here.

MAN WITH THE CIGARETTE: Kid, you climb in the 3 car, the world will be following you for the next twenty years.

JR: Who are you?

MAN WITH THE CIGARETTE: Just a poster on FR.

JR: You know tubebender?

MAN WITH THE CIGARETTE: No.

I really don't know much about the transmissions. I think the old boxes were Jerico. I will do some checking tomorrow.

Gordon and Johnson's cars had transmissions from Mid Valley Engineering for the Dodge/Save Mart 350, while the cars for Busch and Vickers had different units, Gordon's crew chief Robbie Loomis said.

Ricky Rudd said.....

CAN YOU EXPLAIN HOW THE TRANSMISSIONS WORK?

"The only thing I can say is it's a completely different gearbox. It's made different. It's cast different. For many years we had to run a transmission that came out of a Ford product or a GM product, and now these things are custom built and specially built - made for racing. The older transmissions - you go back about eight years ago - the shifter handle was about three-feet tall, and to go from first gear to second gear you'd grab a handful and a whole armful and have to pull it.

Now they're almost like little hydraulics. Actually they're not, but they feel that way. You've got a little shift handle and it's more like a true road-race transmission. It's very easy to drive - no clutch. It's a neat piece, but it's too easy."
