I didn't quite "get on her" on the first date, but it was not too long after that.

Jeesh, these things sure get personal.

Yeah. Food. Sex. Sleep. Evacuation.

Not necessarily in that order.

Well, being just funny has done pretty well by me. I've been married 16 years last month, with four kids including a new baby. Life is good.

The date I can't forget was on January 17, 1965. It was a snowy evening and I was just 16. My father almost didn't let me go because the roads were so very bad, but fate, plus a great deal of begging on my part, didn't let that happen.

Some weeks before I had picked out the picture of a handsome young man in a high school annual who was a year older. I didn't know him from Adam, but made it known I'd love to meet him. No one seemed to know him, but at lenght, I heard someone mention his first name at the school lunch table. "Mike who?" I insisted. SHE KNEW HIM! and I knew her and she arranged a blind date. I was terrified he'd hate me, and must have spent three days grooming and discarding a closet full of clothes in an effort to appear just perfect. For all practical purposes, I might as well have worn a burlap bag for on that night so long ago, a boy I picked out of a book came into my living room wearing a twinkle in his eye, and snow in his hair and in the instant it took for our eyes to meet, what we'd be doing with the rest of our lives was settled.

On June 6, of this year, we celebrated our 47th wedding aniversary. And, yes, he still has that twinkle in his eye, although a lot more "snow" in his hair.

I was at a bike show with my husband and some friends. I heard him laughing loudly with his buddy, they called my over to a tent of belt buckles.

One of the belt buckles said, "It's Not Going To Lick Itself.".
